| Vista SP1 Remote Desktop Connection issue
Just installed SP1 on Vista Business here at work and now we are unable to RDP to a Windows 2000 box that we use. Is there some new elevated privileges canceling this out that we can disable and go back to? Error: Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote computer again. The server is up that I'm telneting too (we have XP machines that reach it fine) and I can telnet to it from the Vista machine. Any suggestions? ::CORY:: |

I would hunt for a disabled service, something like RPC. -- Was this helpful? Then click the Ratings button. Didnt help. Made sure both RPC services were started and got the same error. I am able to remote from the Vista machine to the XP machines just fine. It's gotta be something with the old version of RDP on the 2000 box. Maybe a registry entry to make it ignore this check? ::CORY:: "Mark L. I would try running the RDP software from an elevated prompt or the default admin account. -- Was this helpful? Then click the Ratings button. Try connecting with the /admin switch which replaces the deprecated /console switch e.g. mstsc /admin -- Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience: Systems Administration http://www.vistahelp.ca/phpBB2/ |

(I know folks hate this, but...) It' works fine here! LOL. Anyway, after applying SP1 a Vista machine here, I can still use Remote Desktop to connect to a Windows 2000 server. No issues. Possibly it is not a SP1 issue but something unrelated? -Frank |
