'catalyst install manager has stoppeed working'

I always get this message when trying to install catalyst drivers, I had
8.3 which I uninstalled and now I can't install anything anymore,
somewhere I read that there is a problem with net framework 2.0 and
catalyst so I should reinstall net framework but you can't do that on
vista 64 it's embedded so I doubt this is really the cause of the problem.

I use an ATI X1300 Pro. Like you, I always uninstalled the previous CCC
before installing an update. It is common knowledge that ATI drivers are
troublesome to install. I decided long ago to just leave CCC alone and not
update it unless it was a necessity.
ATI releases more driver updates than any other graphics card vendor,
mostly to satisfy the gamers. If you are not a gamer there is really no need
for you to ever update the graphics card driver unless you are experiencing
a problem or need to update it for compatibility.

Re: 'catalyst install manager has stopped working'

Thanks for all the help, let me be more precise now.

First I am not a begginer and yes I have uninstalled all of it although
it wasn't pretty, eventually I went into safe mode and removed all the
traces of ati with driver cleaner net yet it didn't help. Then I
installed visual c++ 2008 x64 and net frameowrk 3.0 and 3.5 I tried to
install 2.0 but vista claims it is already installed.

Here is how this happens, i run this file
8-3_vista64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_59753.exe

screen shows up

http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/4705/45189697ba2.jpg

i press install, it seems to get to the end and than this message every
time

http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/3259/92256157jx0.png

and the error looks like this

Problem signature:

Although I am a pretty advanced user I am totaly new to Vista and maybe
it is my fault somehow, it is a fresh install of vista x64, the updates
are the service pack1, I have no antivirus or firewall(except windows
firewall), I turned off uac and superfetch, every program I tested works
except I can't get windows mail to start it tells me this message
'windows mail could not be started becuse msoe.dll could not be loaded'.

Re: 'catalyst install manager has stoppeed working'

I've given up and will reinstall on an internal hard-drive, the thing is
I've installed vista on an external esata and at least once a week
chkdsk checks it when entering windows whitch means some files could be
corrupted and that's when chkdsk initalies itself it is definetly not a
scheduled check, I've scanned it for bad sectors and nothing.

I don't know maybe it's a crappy esata drive it's primary mode is usb so
maybe files get corrupted in the transfer or something I hope I have
better luck on a normal hard disk.

Re: 'catalyst install manager has stoppeed working'

I hate to bring up such an ancient subject, but i stumbled across this postwhilst searching Google for a cure to ths issue.

Has anyone ever had any success with thi? I have even tried the steps here, usig not only CCleaner but 2 other cleaners to make sure all bad entries were gone from the registry during that step:

http://www.driverheaven.net/mobility...d-working.html

However, this does not work either.

I am about to just reinstall Vista, but I really do not want to. Time to reinstall Vista 64 bit -- half an hour. Time to reinstall Adobe and everything else I have that requires activations, licensing, etc. -- 2 weeks. I really do not want to do that but I have a feeling ATI hosed my OS with this :-(
