Error 80070002 trying to update Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN

Vista update recently made errror 80070002 trying to update Intel Wireless
WiFi Link 4965AGN. The Microsoft Update is dated January 26. Have tried to
remove the temporary update files emptying
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore and download, deactivated Windows
Update, uninstalled the drivers using
http://www.intel.com/support/wireles.../cs-025395.htm, used recovery
manager, ect. Still I can't install the old drivers and I can't install an
updated driver. I'm using Vista Premium and a HP Pavillion dv6xxx and the
driver apparently not working is version 11.5.0.32. An update to the Intel
Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN driver on HPs driver page called 7.10 C driver
version 11.5.1.8 dated February 2008

has not solved the problem since it can't be installed.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried a 'system restore' to last known good point?

Yes, I did that in the beginning. Unfortunately it didn't work, and I have
tried several last known good points.
