| Norton Internet Security 2008
Hi, I am intended to install the above packet. From earlier communication on the forum i dedected that there is really a problem using Norton SW with Vista. Is this still the case? Would it be better with SP1? If i would use it nevertheless is there any conflict between Windows defender & the antispyware function from Noron? Regards Huib |

Hi, By reading your post it doesn't seem to matter what we say you are going to try it anyway. I really suggest you think many times over before you install that CRAPWARE on your system. If you insist, you better uninstall any Virus software you now have. Any and ALL spyware programs and turn off Windows Defender. BTW, NIS will disable your Firewall and use it's version. I'm not going to list a bunch of reviews, good or bad. You seen to have done some homework, but here is one link and if you decide to uninstall you will have to use their Norton Removal Tool to get rid of everything. http://review.zdnet.com/internet-sec...-32588378.html -- All the best, SG ALEX NICHOL (1935-2005) http://www.aumha.org/alex.htm You will never be forgotten my friend "Huib" <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:47cd1f94$0$2980$ba620e4c@news.skynet.be... > Hi, > > I am intended to install the above packet. > From earlier communication on the forum i dedected that there is really a > problem using Norton SW with Vista. > > Is this still the case? > > Would it be better with SP1? > > If i would use it nevertheless is there any conflict between Windows > defender & the antispyware function from Noron? > > Regards > Huib |

Hi SG, Thanks for reaction & the references. The point is i am getting the package for free from my provider. I asked the question again because it could be that there was an evolution from Semantic & Vista SP1 to work better togther. You convinced me not to use it and i am indeed not intended to blow up the good performance of my Vista. Norton is known to cause many problems in Vista and they don't always appear immediately. You are asking for trouble if you use it. I found the switch from Norton to NOD32 was a great relief. Yes, avoid Norton. Symantec is the barnacle of the software world. It's like your mother-in-law moved in. Teen-agers hanging around the Stop-N-Rob are now known as "Nortons." You'll have to visit the registry to remove some residual bits, but even that's not sufficient. |

Using the removal tool should solve any Norton related problems even with the "residual bits" remaining in the registry. I agree with your philosophy KAV + Windows firewall = no problems for me! I never had any intention of paying for it because I've had bad experiences with several versions of Norton Anti-Virus before but I wish I'd decided to remove it earlier. I've had two problems which I realised were due to it: I couldn't add search providers to IE7 unless I disabled UAC - as soon as I uninstalled NIS, it worked as designed. Also, I couldn't install Citrix Presentation Server, not even if I disabled UAC. What a load of junk! |

You can get Kaspersky for $10 at ebay. |
