    Manually remove local port

    Hey Yall
I posted this over at annoyances, and had a few responses, but nothing
that actually worked. I was hoping that maybe I would get a few more
    responses over here.

I have a Vista Home box that had a printer setup on \\Server\Printer.
The printer was removed, and now when I try to re-add the printer, the
port is not listed. I go thru add local port, type in \\Server\Printer
and I get a message that says: Local Port Port \\Server\Printer already
exists. I remember in XP and 2K, there was a reg key that held these
ports, but I am unable to find anything like that in Vista. Anyone got
any ideas of how to get rid of the port that doesnt seem to exist?
    Thanks Greg

    RE: Manually remove local port

    Hi,
I had the same problem, but I looked it up and I fond it :)
Go in Control Panel - Printers - and right click in a white area - Run as
administrator - Server Properties - and under the Ports tab you should find
the port you don't want and .... delete :)
    Cheers

Thanks Integral007, but I have already tried that. The port doesnt
    appear there either.

    Remove com port in Vista

Well after many hours I have finally figured out where they stashed the com ports in Vista...
    Regedit....
    User Software Micro, Wind NT
    Local "" "" ""
You will find ports and Printer.

    Good luck
