DirectX 10 install problems

Hi Folks,

I have an issue with DirectX 10. I am attempting to ensure that I have the
latest DX 10 load but when I try to install it from the MS website I get an
Internal system error which asks me to refer to DXError and DirectX logs.

I have looked at both of these and copied the results below:

CDXWSetup::InitInstallEngine() failed.

To me it looks like the installer sees a later version of DX 10 on my
machine but how can that be when I am loading the latest from the Direct X
web site? This is giving me all sorts of problems so can someone please help
me?

I would boot to Safe Mode (F8 on restart, 'black screen after BIOS screen)
The makes you the default "Administrator, and you will get better access for
programs you run with those rights. The directX install probably needs
better access to the registry.

Windows Vista already includes DirectX 10. Why are you trying
to install it again? DirectX 10 in Vista is the latest available version.

vista has directx 10

but if you want to see it.. go to start> and in the box type dxdiag and
press enter

Why don't you wait for the Vista Service Pack 1 so you will get updated to
DirectX 10.1

Thanks for your suggestions... I will give Safe Mode a try Mark but as the
only user I have full Admin rights already; but you never know!

Carey... because Bioshock black screens at a particular place that 2K
knowledgebase has recognised as a fault cured by reloading the latest DX.
The game runs in DX9 mode but not in DX10 mode hense the need to reload DX10.

Thanks 'On The Bridge' but I already know about DXDiag, it shows DX10 and
passes.

Gary... yep that is an option but I would rather be using the products that
I paid for.

Does anyone know if DX should load over a current version? I would have
thought so and the fact that it comes back with what is obviously an erronous
error message (DXWSetup: A newer version of DirectX have been installed
already.)... not possible as I am putting on the newest version, leads me to
believe that my load is corrupt. This would explain why it fails to operate
correctly whereas DX9 runs fine.

SP1 includes DirectX 10.1
