getting application not found when double clicking on dvd drive icon

Something has went wrong with my Windows Vista. It has 2GB RAM, Interl Board, 256GN HDD and a Sony DVD ROM. Earlier everything was working fine but now when i insert any CD/DVD in the drive and double click on DVD drive Icon, instead reading the disk, it gives me an error message syaing:

    "Application not found"

Pretty strange for me. And if at the same time i restart the computer leaving the disk inside, then it works/read teh CD correctly. I tried updating the drivers but yet no success. Can anyone please tell me what i need to do to get rid of this strange problem? Thanks.

Re: getting application not found when double clicking on dvd drive icon

Hello Jame, just go through the following steps, hope it helps.

Click Start, type regedit and enter Registry Editor.Navigate to the following location:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider

Now click the Edit menu and select click Permissions. Click the registry key for the user that is currently logged on and ensure that Read and Full Control are both set to Allow . No go to the Advanced button and make sure that the user that is currently logged on is selected. Also see if the Full Control is listed in the Permissions column, and that This Key and Subkeys is listed in the Apply to column.

if all ok, simply click select Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects check box. Click Apply , and
then click Yes when you receive a prompt to continue. Click OK , and then
click OK again. Thats it. Restart the computer to take effect and now try to run any CD. Hopefully you will not get that error again.
