Which version of Vista are you running? If you have Ultimate, Business or
Enterprise have you tried group policy to disable the feature? This is no
good if you are running Vista Home or premium because group policy is not
    included in these two versions.

If you have Ultimate etc proceed as follows:

    1/ Click Start button
2/ In search box type 'gpedit.msc' (without the quotes) and press Enter
3/ Click OK on the UAC box that appears next and then Group Policy will open
4/ In the Group Policy window, Click the > next to Administrative Templates
    in the User Configuration section
5/ Scroll down the list until you come to Windows components. Again click on
the > next to this option
6/ Scroll down the windows components section until you come to Windows
    Messenger
7/ Click on Windows messenger and you should see two options in the right
    hand pane:

    a) Do not automatically start windows messenger initially
    b) Do not allow windows messenger to be run

8/ Chose which option you want and then click on it
9/ In the left hand pane you will see a link marked Properties, click on
this to open the command properties
10/ Set the option as Disabled

    You can also:

    1. Go to the Windows Live Messenger Main Window.
    2. Click on the Show Menu button in the top right.
    3. Select Tools, Options.
    4. Select General from the menu on the right. (2nd from the top)
    5. Under Sign in on left, uncheck: "Automatically run Windows Live Messenger when I log into windows.

OK Gordan , I was a little fast when opening Windows Live Mail or any Mail program such as Outlook, Live Msnger wants to load in my task bar which I prefer not to have loading just because I open any mail program Live Mail , Live HotMail, etc. None of the aforementioned solutions work for me.
