    Side by side error-message / sfc-tool

    Hello guys!

that's my first post in this forum.... ;)

I have a problem with my vista enterprise X64. I'm not able to start
several applications, such as Acrobat Reader, Samsung MagicColor or
Crysis. Everytime I try to open this exe-files an error message appears:
"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side
    configuration is
incorrect"According to different newsgroup this problem is caused by
corrupted files in syswow64. So I ran checkdisk and after that I
veryfied my system-files using sfc /scannow. The sfc-tools completes
with 100% but tells me that some files couldn't be repaired or replaced.
    My applications still doesn't work.

What's the next step for me? Must I reinstall my complete system or is
    a repair-installation sufficiently?

Thanks for your replies in advance!

    Kind regards
    Wittbert

Well, if you're running Windows Vista and received "Application failed to
start because side-by-side configuration is incorrect." error when trying to
    run an application or game,
the only thing you need to do is download and install "Microsoft Visual C++
2005 Redistributable Package" or vcredist_x86 from microsoft download center
and it will work just fine. (well, for me it worked and for some people.)
I've wasted hours and hours trying to figure what was causing the
"Application failed to start because side-by-side configuration is
incorrect." error and I've read in some forum that installing Visual Studio
SP1 and SP1 Update for Vista will work but for me, the only thing I've
    installed was vcredist_x86.

The thing I've been wondering is, why the error came out since I've ran or
played the application or game yesterday using the same OS where the
"Application failed to start because side-by-side configuration is
    incorrect." error came out.

Well, it doesn't matter anymore since everything is already fine.

    Hi!

hey thanks for your fast and detailed reply! I'll check this this
evening and inform you if your workaround fixed my problem!

In my case it was from one day to another without changing anything....
I player Crysis x64 and the next time I want to start the application
the side by side error occurs...

    Kind regards
    Benjamin

    Hi!

I just deinstalled the existing x64 c++ re and installed the downloaded
new one. Unfortunately the error still occurs. Alternatatively I
installed the x86 Version but nothing has changed....
I think for me there's no other way to fix that problem...I'll try to
    repair the installation.

    Kind regards
