identifies it like "HP C5110A SCSI Processor Device", gustaria know to me if
somebody has been able to make work and mount drivers for this device of
which, at the moment I do not want to undo.

Vista has seen my HP sj5300C (older scanner) and it actually worked for a
while a few builds ago. HP is not going to make Vista drivers fo this
scanner, and I looked up your scanner's driver and they make no mention of a
    Vista driver.

Obviously they want to sell you a new scanner.

We've had suggestion that a Vuescan .inf file could work for some of these
HP Scanners along with a Vuescan driver, but it didn't work for me. The
Vista Print team told me to go look for a TWAIN DS driver, but I have yet to
    find one.

I using an HP 6100c SCSI ( Adaptec 19160N ), basically same as an HP4c,
this scanner is 10 years old or older.I'm using Deskscan 2.9. Also about 10
    years old . Works great.
You can still download Deskscan from HP site.

I'm glad to say that I am using my SJ5P with an Adaptec 19160 scsi
    controller under VISTA Business version.

When I installed VISTA in dual boot with my XP Pro I "neglected" to
unplug peripherals as recommended but VISTA installed OK.

I tired the Scan element in VISTA's Fax & Scan but it said it could not
    find a scanner.

I looked in Device Manager and both the Scsi card and the scanner were
    there with no error flags.

I then did what I had to do in Windows 2000 and XP to get the scanner
working and that was to install the older HP scanning software:
    Deskscan 2.9.

That installed with no problems and at the end I used the Start /
Programs / menu item to run Scanner Test which it did and the baloon
went up at the end! Hooray!

The HP Copy Utility works perfectly too.

The file you need if you do not have Deskscan 2.9 is on the HP website
at this location for the US version but they may be a local version on
your HP website. It is called sj166en.exe for the English version and
    the URL is:

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?
    os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=58976&lang=en

    or more specifically:

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...DownloadIndex?
    softwareitem=sj-34132-1&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=58976&os=228&lang=en

If you go to http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/welcome.html you can
select the country you need and then look for Software & Driver
    Downloads.

If you need more help let me know what country and language you would
    need to match your system.

See my several messages including the one here about using Deskscan 2.9 which
    uses TWAIN.

Thanks--Interesting--- I'll give all of them a shot. Dev Mgmt says I have
the 5300C in and it's working fine, but of course Device Manager would say
that if you stuffed a grapefruit into your pc. It hasn't been reliable for
driver health since it was released August 25, 1995 and they aren't getting
off their butts to correct it anytime this side or the other side of
    Vienna/Blackcomb.

I have one client who is 'married' to his old SCSI based scanner -- I
mean way old, the controller is a 2902. The reason is that his scanner
has an effective page feeder and he knows a new scanner with a good
page feeder will set him back $300 or more.

It works with drivers those to you, but in x86 no?

I look forward to hearing the outcome -- many are intersted

As long as it works and has the definition you need .....

I do not fully understand your question.

What I described has worked withmy SJ 5P and Adaptec 19160 scsi card in
Windows 2000, XP Pro and now in VISTA Business, all 32 bit versions
that is true. All using the HP Deskscan 2.9 software package.

I have not tried 64-bit versions of Windows although my CPU is an
    Athlon 64 bit one.

If that does not answer your question please explain more fully what
    you mean by

It does for him. As for our home setup, the scanner is getting and
lame (runs ok under Win2K), but it will be one of the relatively low
cost upgrades we do before moving on to Vista on one or two productions
    systems.

That being said, we may hold off on the primary systems -- we pretty
much have to until we retire the NetWare 4.2 server.

    Re: HP Scanjet 5P

Thanks for your answer, when I talk about x86 I talk about to processor
32bit. I want to make it work in 64bit, although this weekend will try what
you explain to me to install Vista Windows 32bit to see if I can make it
    work.

    Aren't we all .... ?

I can't help you on 64 bit operating systems since I've not used them.

But I don't see what you have to lose by trying what works with VISTA
on 32 bit. If it refuses to install or won't run then you'll know.

    Make a restore point first?

Indeed - saw a podiatrist today as a matter of fact.

If, it will prove east weekend in version 32, but it leaves a XP in a
partition for when it needs to me, so that my idea is to work in base 64.

And whether you see any improvement in 64-bit.

Today it is a very glad day for my. Thanks to the aid of Jose Manuel Tella -
MVP I have been able to make work my scanner in Vista 64bits. For my it is a
great joy, the which could salary to make it work so that it is a great
scanner. If somebody also has it and wants to make it work in 64bits that
comments it and I leave the files somewhere him.

I'm not working in 64bit but since I do support an scanners and
printers could you outline how you did it and where the files can be
obtained -- just the URL for them?

Jose Manuel Tella, takes to alternative groups of the news due to trolls or
people who do not make good coexistence in the groups of the news in Spanish
of Microsoft. The files and the modification to he himself I have obtained
them here: news.jmtella.com single I must to make it work in 64bit, if you
want the files I can colocartelo or enviartelo is an email that you indicate
    to me

I'm OK since I'm not using 64-bit but since these newsgroups are self
help it helps others to know how to solve a problem if they have it.

    Drivers here -->
    http://rapidshare.com/files/17591955...sta64.rar.html

    Only Windows Vista 64bits.

Not sure about the site but if someone needs the files they can check
    it out.

    Drivers for x86 y x64 http://rapidshare.com/files/18420546/HP_Scanjet_5P.rar

Try VueScan by Hamrick Software.... will support your scanner in Vista.

    Re: HP Scanjet 5P

Thank you - this discussion made it easy for me to install my own SCSI HP scanner 5p - great success. Except, does anyone have a problem that the scanner has to be switched on at boot up for the computer to recognise it later? Is there any way to solve this (aside from obviously always switching it on when booting or rebooting?)

Thank you for reviving a thread that died over 2 years ago. I would assume
by now HP has updated it's drivers for the scanner which eliminated this
    problem.
