| Second Life and graphics card problem & COD4
Have just discovered that my new laptop, an Advent 9315 2GB mem, Vista Home etc, contains a SiS graphics system which is not supported by Second Life. What can I do? Also I have loaded Call of Duty 4 but it too won't run. Help please as I am going mad without secondlife (I'm a reporter for the sl newspaper) eeeekkkkk Any help will be appreciated. Thanks :( |

Most laptop video cards cannot be upgraded. That SiS video is very underpowered for Second Life and CoD4. Not really much you can do other than use another computer, sorry. -- Dustin Harper dharper@vistarip.com http://www.vistarip.com | Vista Resource & Information Page "Baron DeSantis" <BaronDeSantis@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:051384F5-E213-43D4-8635-DE640C8D3A39@microsoft.com... > Have just discovered that my new laptop, an Advent 9315 2GB mem, Vista > Home > etc, contains a SiS graphics system which is not supported by Second Life. > What can I do? SiS is a common chipset maker that tends on the budget side for business. More than likely your model SiS won't work. Update the drivers from SiS (if there are any), run DXDiag on your computer and see if everything checks out OK. More than likely you are not going to be able to run games on this laptop. What model notebook are you using? Brand/Model, please. |

| RE: Second Life and graphics card problem & COD4
well... there's two possibilities, one is better than the other (no duh.): 1. You're lucky enough that the graphics card is NOT integrated. Then you can opo you computer open, pull the card out, and put a high-end nVidia 8-series card in or any other graphics card by nVidia or ATI. Although I seriously doubt this possibility since Advent laptops do not look like customizable gamer PCs. Anywhoo, this is the better option. 2. Wah wah wah. Integrated card. Put you computer up for sale on ebay and hope for the best. Then get a Dell, HP, or a brand-name laptop from a big company. True that they do SUPPORT DX gaming, but whether or not you can play any game released within the past 6 years is up in the air. :) I'm even be impressed if older OpenGL games like Quake 3 ran with an acceptable frame rate. -- Dustin Harper dharper@vistarip.com http://www.vistarip.com | Vista Resource & Information Page "Andy [YaYa]" <android8675@MAPSONhotmail.com> wrote in message news:50953C33-10F5-4B77-B0ED-FB6D70C34493@microsoft.com... > "Dustin Harper" <dharper@vistarip.com> wrote in message > news:3792A096-D7B2-4031-9968-6A8EE736876F@microsoft.com... >> Most laptop video cards cannot be upgraded.
