| Anytime Upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate
Hi all. I have a new HP laptop that came pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Premium. I'd like to upgrade to Vista Ultimate, so I paid my $159.00 to Microsoft and downloaded the license file for the "Anytime Upgrade". I've done as the upgrade installation suggests and run the installation from my existing Vista Ultimate DVD (which has been used to install Vista on my desktop machine) - after extracting the license file from my expensive download... The upgrade downloads the appropriate files from Microsoft, goes through the motions of upgrading my OS from Home Premium to Ultimate; however, it gets to the last step in the process and I get an error stating that the system upgrade cannot continue. My laptop reboots itself and then the upgrade rolls itself back to Home Premium. I've tried this 3 times in the past two days to no avail. I'm more than willing to purchase a Vista Ultimate DVD, if that turns out to be necessary - however, not before obtaining a refund for the *UNUSABLE* Anytime Upgrade license. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas? Does anyone know how (or if) I can obtain a refund from Microsoft for the anytime upgrade license I purchased online, since it doesn't appear to work? Thanks!! -- D.M. Rollins Atlanta, GA USA labradors@bellsouth.net debbie.rollins@practiceworks.com |

You did a big mistake on chosing Vista, if you really want to upgrade, see if you can get XP for free from the people who sold you the PC, since with ultimate you can have downgrade rights *where in reality they are upgrade to a superior OS= XP* "Debbie Rollins" <DebbieRollins@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:2C4163D0-7746-44DA-B239-5932984EF4FE@microsoft.com... > Hi all. > > I have a new HP laptop that came pre-installed with Windows Vista Home > Premium. When the upgrade asks to check the internet for updates say 'NO'. Then disconnect from the network. It should then complete. You will have to apply a lot of updates. !!! | Re: Anytime Upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate If I want to "downgrade" to XP pro from vista, will I need to do a clean install? Or can I do an actual upgrade where I can keep my files and installed programs? -- savino |

You won't be able to keep any installed programs or settings. -- Tim Slattery MS MVP(Shell/User) Slattery_T@bls.gov http://members.cox.net/slatteryt |
