Vista stop error code 124

Okay, about 2 months ago I bought a new laptop from dell. everything worked fine for a while but about 2 weeks ago I started getting weird blue screen errors after a software update I did, after uninstalling the software and still having BSOD messages I decided to reformat the drive.

after reformatting I ran into annoying BSOD error messages that kept causing the reinstall to fail. I always deleted the partition and created a new one and after hours talking with tech support I finally got the OS installed....BUT

Now, the only way I can log in to windows is in safe mode...every time I try to log in normally somtimes it will make it to the log in screen, most of the time it doesn't, if it DOES make it to the login screen sometimes it will actually let me login (VERY RARELY) and even then if it does let me log in it's only for less than a minute before it crashes to a BSOD...

I keep getting error code 0x00000124 and it's VERY VERY frustrating, I've ran every damn diagnostic test on my machine literally at least 5 times and there are no hardware errors. The tech support person at dell also assured me that if the tests show no errors then the hardware is fine. so WHY is this happening.....any help would be greatly appreciated.

**ALSO I forgot to mention however that if the BSOD occurs before it gets to the login screen it's not a stop error 124 it's a stop error code that looks like this

STOP: 0x0000009c (0x00000005, 0x846E49D0, 0xF2000018, 0x02000E0F)

The bottom line is: it's a DELL problem.

DELL buys software licences at a cheap price from microsoft, on the
understanding that DELL will provide ALL support, both hardware AND software.

Demand service from them.

Well yeah they do provide software support but even for blue screen problems you have to sign up for some extra complete care thing that is 130 dollars! I don't need it for ANYTHING else except blue screens. I don't need help installing any program or configuring any settings in windows! it's very disappointing.

Knowing nothing beyond what you have described, I suspect that there is
a hardware error on the mainboard. I would invoke your warranty,
provided Dell has nothing productive to offer.

Q

Take a look at your Repair Vista Options in the following tutorial. You may
want to do a Startup Repair, or some other option. It could be your registry
is corrupt; running a registry scanner/cleaner might help. But it sounds
like your system won't even let you run these fixes. This could well be a
hardware defect.

yeah, I actually ran diagnostics on the board, and it said there were no errors there either, and yes I've run the windows repair feature many times, it finds something wrong but it doesn't know what it is, it just gives me the bug check code 124. I have a system mechanic demo which I got to install in safe mode, but the program wouldn't run in safe mode, and I never had time to run it when I actually got logged in normally, which is literally like 1 out of 30 attempts

I solved the STOP 0x124 error on my computer some months ago by enabling
32-Bit Disk Access for all my hard disks in the BIOS.

I had one recurrance a few days ago, and tracked it down to
overheating. Refilling the tank in my water cooler fixed the problem.
