Cisco VPN client fails on Vista with Reason 442

It takes me like 5-10 attempts to get the Cisco VPN client to connect. When
it fails to connect, it returns the following.

Reason 442: Failed to enable Virtual adapter

I dont get these on XP.

As I also mentioned, it does connect eventually after trying a few times.

Thanks

Re: Cisco VPN client fails on Vista with Reason 442

You might have an out-of-date VPN Client? Version 5.x is compatible with
Vista. If you have a support contract with Cisco, you can download an
updated client for free. Otherwise, contact your network administrator, to
get an updated Vista-compatible client.

If you already have version 5 of VPN Clinet, see this entry about 442
errors, in the Cisco VPN Client 5.0 README doc:

Same problem with my VPN client. I'm running latest version of Cisco
VPN Client. Also I spend all day with Cisco Support and they couldn't
find solution. They'll get back to me in 72 hours

Re: Cisco VPN client fails on Vista with Reason 442

I wanted to share something that worked for me that I don't see posted anywhere else, since I suffered with the problem for a long time.

Completely disable IPv6, following this article below, make the registry change as well:

Next, go into your local security policy on the vista computer, and change the setting for "Network Security: LAN manager Authentication Level" to "Send NTLM and LM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated."

REBOOT!

Those two changes fixed the problem for me, I know a lot of people post things about this error and say "it worked for me", but nothing else worked on my PC. Since making those changes, I connect my Cisco VPN client EVERYTIME.

I hope that helps someone else... LEt me know if it does or doesn't, Im curious.
