The reason you cannot uninstall Vista SP1 is because it has not been released
yet, not due until first half 2008.

Uninstall updates here (you'll have to wait for SP1 to be released first):
Control Panel > System and Maintenance > [Windows Update] Installed updates.

But if you happened to install the SP1 Beta (like I had) and wanted to
install the SP1 RC1 (like I wanted to), then uninstalling of the
original SP1 Beta must be done first. The official installation guid
for SP1 RC1 says:
>Use the Control Panel applet "Programs and Features" and select "View
>installed updates" from the top left of the task pane. Under Windows,
>look for "Service Pack for Windows (KB936330).
This worked for me.

The price of jumping the gun. Never install any pre-released Beta on a production machine. Asking for trouble which I now think you have found

Very nice resource. Thanks.
Dear Bob
People keep telling me I have not installed Vista SP1, but I have. I got a
copy from connect.microsoft. My Computer properties say: Service Pack 1
v.275.
Judging by the fact nobody else is replying, the nuance is that it cannot be
removed.

We won't know until the Service Pack 1 is finished and released to the
public. As for the beta version you apparently have, probably not.
That would have been explained to you when you joined the beta program.

The nuance is that most do not download and install a pre-relapsed Beta on their system knowing that it can screw up your OS. The people in the Private Beta newsgroup are the ones that can advise you on how to remove this Beta version of SP1. To access this group you would have had to be selected as an official Beta tester and when they sent you the URL from where to download the official Beta they would have also sent you the address of the private newsgroup for the Vista Beta SP1
This is your cost for jumping the gun.
