    NVIDIA GeForce 6600 Driver Update

I have the NVIDIA Graphics Card noted and have a graphics rating of 3.8
When Microsoft released the updated driver, the graphics rating reduced to
    1.0

    1. Why would a new driver degrade performance to that level.
    2. Why would they release a driver that created that big of a problem?

Is there a fix other than not installing that update?

Because MS isn't nVidia, of course.

    > 2. Why would they release a driver that created that big of a problem?

Because they don't give a sh¡t about their paying customers.

Best to get driver updates from nVidia, not Microsoft. After all,
Microsoft didn't make your graphics card, nVidia did. Now, roll back the
driver and visit www.nvidia.com and get a proper driver for your card.

NEVER allow Windows Update to install hardware drivers, especially graphics card
    drivers.

Go to nVidia and download and install the latest drivers.

Re: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 Driver Update

Microsoft "releases" that which is supplied to them by the various hardware
manufacturers. That being said, you really should be getting your drivers
direct from the hardware manufacturers web site.

I have an Nvidia 6600. My graphics score is 3.9 with the default drivers
included with Vista. With the adding of any newer drivers, the graphics
    score drops 1-2 tenth's of a point.

Nvidia's problem - not caused by the operating system.

That's good advice from Cal Bear.

I have a 6600GT and it rates a 4.9 Desktop, and 4.3 Gaming score with the
    169.09 Drivers from NVidia.

Uhhhh...did you update your score after the new driver was installed?
You must do that otherwise it will always default to 1 when new hardware
    or drivers are installed.

He proly just needs to update his "score" as it will always default to 1
when new hardware of software updates are applied.

    One other thing:

He should be SURE to UNINSTALL (in Device Manager -- including CHECKING the box
to "Delete driver files in the Uninstall confirmation box) his present nVidia
drivers, reboot and then install the downloaded new drivers.

Thanks everyone for the great advice.

Yes, I did update the score after installing Microsoft's recommended update.
    I did get a score of 1.0.

It did return to 3.8 when I went back to the earlier driver.

"Proly" isn't a word in the English language, Frank. What do you think
you're doing, text messaging on a cell phone? Or can we add hunt and
peck typing to the list of your "abilities"?

Your advice didn't *probably* work. I didn't work at all because it was
stupid advice. Video drivers should *never* be gotten from MS but from
the graphics card manufacturer. This has been true for years.
