Macromedia Projector is a utility from Adobe (formerly Macromedia) which
bundles up a Flash visual presentation into a stand-alone EXE file, so you
can display the images on a PC without the Flash Player installed. Your
anatomy CD-ROM probably used Macromedia Projector to display its anatomy
pictures.
Macromedia Projector is not compatible with Vista. In order to run the
program, you need to set the Compatibility to a previous version of Windows.
In Explorer, find the main EXE file on the CD-ROM which runs the anatomy
program. Right-click the EXE file and choose Properties from the context
menu. The Properties dialogue will appear. Choose the Compatibility Tab.
Check the checkbox in Compatibility Mode, for "Run this program in
compatibility mode for:" and choose and earlier version of Windows - Windows
98 would be a good one to try. Then click OK to save the changes. Now
double-click the EXE file, to launch the program.
Once you have set the Compatibility, Windows Vista should "remember" to run
the program in compatibility mode, so hopefully you only need to do this
once.

Hi there. I have 2 games, Zoo Vet and Zoo Vet: Endangered Species, and both
of them get the error message "Macromedia Projector Has Stopped Working". I
have done the compatibility mode thing, which should have worked considering
they both work in XP. But it didn't. It's very frustrating, as I can only
play the game if I quickly click to skip each cut scene, which means I miss
all the dialogue. Is there ANY help for this? I have found many posts
on-line about this issue, with everyone saying to do the compatibility thing.
Adobe is no help, they have a tech note saying they are working on the
problem, but it was last updated in October 2005!! They say it's a problem
with having Quicktime 7 on the system.
I've found the program compatibility wizard to be quite useless. It seems
that the problem is more with the older software of Macromedia Projector. I
think it was written for operating systems XP and older. Vista seems to spit
out Macromedia like it was garbage. Unless Adobe, or Microsoft, figures out
a patch, I think this problem is going to stay for a while. Just a heads up
from an unemployed computer tech.

Oh, those CDs must be a decade old. Macromedia are no more, having been
bought by Adobe, and Projector was absorbed and developed into the current
versions of Flash and Shockwave.
Your easiest solution would be to use an old computer for viewing those CDs,
or install an older version of Windows onto a virtual machine in VirtualPC
on your Vista computer and view the CDs withing the virtual machine.

you mention that macromedia projector is not compatable with vista, but I have vista and WAS playing games with no problems. Now I can't and I can't figure out why... I get the message Macromedia has stopped working.. I just want to be able to play my games again. I think an update from microsoft has done it

Windows immediately kicks in with its ?Data Execution Prevention? subroutine and denies the Macromedia Projector program any of that reserved memory space. Macromedia Projector doesn?t have an alternate plan-B to get memory that?s not being used by Windows, so Macromedia Projector just gets frustrated and completely shuts down.
Solution, Part 1 of 2: go to your Start button at the lower-left corner of your screen, click on it and then click on ?Help and Support?. Type ?Data Execution Prevention? into the ?Search Help? box and then click on the button to launch the search. Click on the second item of the resulting list: ?Change Data Execution Prevention Settings?. Follow the instructions to add Macromedia Projector as an exception? but how do you find out where the Macromedia Projector program is located? Remember that icon on the desktop that I mentioned earlier for the ?Concise Vision Premier? program? I right-clicked on it and in the resulting window, highlighted in blue, was the ?Start In? location of where the Macromedia Projector program is located. I went to that location. For me, the search resulted in a folder being displayed. I clicked on it to open it, which resulted in multiple subfolders, executables and other files being displayed. I ignored the folders and slowly ran my mouse pointer over the files. Popup windows show details on the files as they are being scrolled over. Lo and behold an executable file named ?CVpremier.exe? had a ?File Description? of Macromedia Projector. Alrighty then, that?s the file that gets added to the ?Data Execution Prevention? exclusion list.
Solution, Part 2 of 2: You thought this was going to be a lot simpler, didn?t you? silly rabbit. Macromedia Projector is an old program that, depending on how recent the version is, completely baffles anything running newer than Windows XP, Service Pack 2. That means that it has to be run in ?compatibility mode? on any newer Windows operating system. How do you do that?... real easy. Remember the file I found named ?CVpremier.exe? that had a ?File Description? of Macromedia Projector? Right-click on whatever file it is that you have with the ?File Description? of Macromedia Projector, then select ?Properties? and click on the ?Compatibility? tab. For me, eventually the choice of XP, Service Pack 2 did the trick!
