HP Quickplay

well, i installed HP Quickplay on my tc4400 even that it is not installed on
the machine. the quickplay software is not even availible on its driver and
software page. i dowloaded HP quickplackplay from the tx1000z driver and
software page.

anyways on my HP notebook only the DVD module is showing in the start menu
in vista. there is no shortcut to the main menu or any shortcut to any other
module. is this because i have vista business edition installed. do you
think upgrading to ultimate will fix the issue.

my friend has HP quickplay on their laptop. when the load quickplay there is
a main menu, dvd module, webcam module, mce module, upgrade module, and
more. the upgrade module was accessable through the dvd module as well.

does the version of vista you have and what kind of components you have
installed on your PC determen what suff get installed in HP quickplay or
something because i took a part the installer and saw all of these
components. yet when i installed quickplay only the dvd module installed.

anyone have any ideas on this?

RE: HP Quickplay

Just start QuicKPlay by opening the DVD Icon then choose the "i" icon on the
left side. Choose Custom Menu and then move your menu choices from the left
column to the right column exit and restart QuickPlay and Icons will show.

Re: HP Quickplay

Hi,

Quickplay and the options it comes with has nothing to do with Vista, this
is software provided by HP on machines it builds that support it. It should
not be installed on a machine that it is not intended for as it may cause
other conflicts.

Re: HP Quickplay

i do not seem to have any options in the custom menu, only in the "i" menu
and the "i" menu is for the dvd player settings.

right now i'm thinking it might just be the version of vista that i have. my
friend has home premium on her laptop and i have business edition on mine.

Re: HP Quickplay

What Andre said.

Software like this often alters registry entries when installed and adds
driver files to the system. Tracing it back later when a conflict arises may
be difficult if not impossible.

Interesting. I have a tx1000z laptop which came with quickplay and
vista home premium. Since I purchased the laptop factory refurbished I
made sure to test everything on it to make sure it works properly. I
can report that it does do everything it is supposed to do and it seems
to have all modules of quickplay installed. So what you suspect could
certainly be true.

Re: HP Quickplay

well, i know why certian components are not availible within quickplay on my
laptop. i hacked into the installer and looked into everything.

it had stuff for the dvd player, webcam, mce, main menu, and a few other
things. most of which i did not have. thats why those extra features are not
availible on my computer. and if only three features work dvd player, web
update (which is integrated into each module), and pqmanager, there is no
need to show the main menu i suppose.

right now i have business edition, if i upgrade to ultimate edition, the mce
features of HP quickplay might open up. the application may require a
reinstall after the vista in-place upgrade so that it can detect that i
upgraded vista.

Re: HP Quickplay

I have a dv8300CTO that came with XP Professional and upgraded to Vista
Ultimate with a retail upgrade, not HP upgrade. I used the QuickPlay download
from the dv9000 series.

I have been using all of the upgraded versions since Feb. Everything runs
great (Vista included). I am always current with my upgrades to all software
I use.

It is well integrated with Media Center. Choices are on the menus in Media
Center.

I have TV, DVD, Karaoke, Videos/Music/Pictures, Games, Updates on my
QuickPlay main menu. There are many more choices under each main icon. Like
webcam etc.

I can access these from Media Center also.

All I can say is it works well for me. I use many major software packages
like Photoshop, Premiere, Roxio, Office 2007 Pro w/Profesional Accounting,
Delorme Xmap, Topo, Street Atlas, and several dozen others.

I guess I am lucky as all work well for me.

Re: HP Quickplay

maybe its because you are using ultimate edition and not business edition.
i'll see what happens after i upgrade. or maybe i'll try downloading from
the dv8000 series like you did and see what happens.

I love my xt1000z. Just out of curiosity, what didn't you like about it?

In quickplay I have movies, music video picture, TV, games, and karoke.

Re: HP Quickplay

well for one i kinda dislike the ExpessCards. i have Tons of PCMCIA cards.
some are even from 1995. the newest ones i have are from 2003.

another thing is that i still use floppy drives, standard floppy drives and
high capacity drives. vista still has driver support for some of the high
capacity floppy drives but none of the other floppy drives.

i another thing i hated was vista, on that PC it kept crashing. it was
mostly the grphics driver that kept crashing more than 10 times a day.

i also hate the the driver compatibility in vista. if vista can not find the
driver i some times either have to use the XP driver. if it can not detect
the XP driver which is usually the case or with my older devices i have to
use the 9.x drivers for them or not use them at all.

another thing i disliked about the tx1000z was the touchscreen. i had to
push to hard on it to use it and plus you could use your hand and stuff so
you could accedentally touch it and a command could go into action.

right now i have a tc4400, the touchscreen is sensitive but you can only use
the stylus pen that cam with it. nothing else will activate the touchscreen.

plus i also kept getting a lot of other issues daily with the tx1000z as
well. however it did have a bigger hard drive than my cuurent tablet but it
is not better. my notebook has a hybrid hard drive.

can i know the experience ratings and specs of your tx1000z so i can compare
it to my tc4400. the tx1000z i ended up returning scoring lower than my
tc4400 and i am interested in the score of your tx1000z..

oh by the way i also have more complaints about the tx1000z, i only had it
for about a week. my mother got it for me as a birthday gift/ college gift
but i hated it so much that she let me exchange it. she only purchased the
tx100z in the first place because it was cheaper, not better.

the tx1000z only had a 2 hour battery life, while the tc4400 has a 5 hour
battery life on the main battery. if you get the 12cell extended battery for
it you can get up to 16 hours of battery life. and the tc4400 is faster.

Makes sense if you use pcmcia instead of express cards.

Yup, no floppy.

I hate vista too, but I found I could put XP on the tx1000z while still
maintaining all of the functionality, so this is one reason I bought it.

Yeah, the touch screen is a touch screen instead of a digitizer. My old
tablet pc (toshiba portege 3505) had a digitizer and the difference
between the 2 is noticable to say the least. It'll be something to get
used to.

Yeah, I think I do prefer the digitizer myself.

Fresh out of the box the experience rating is 3.0/ Everything rates at
4.x except the video card which rates at 3.0.

My tx1000z has a 4hr battery life with the battery I bought it with. I
don't know how many cells it has, but it must be more than the basic
battery it comes with new.

I was looking at the tc4400, but I chose not to get it because it looked
like it did not have an internal optical drive. Does yours have one?
