I would recommend that you run a scan on your machine. If you have a lot of network activity on the machine when you logon, chances are you might have unwanted things on the machine like malware, rootkits, virus, etc. Joseph W. | Re: Windows Vista Black Screen after login I scan is a good idea, and should be attempted first. Another option is to manually check your registry for hijacked entries. *Caution: Editing the registry is always dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. Incorrectly applying the changes I'm about to mention could render your system unbootable. If you're even marginally unsure of what to do, then don't. Don't do anything that isn't explicity mentioned here. Don't make a stuffup and then come back blaming me.* Start REGEDIT by pressing WINDOWS+R, typeing REGEDIT and pressing enter. In the left pane Navigate to the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" In the right pane, the following entries should have these values: - Shell=explorer.exe - UserInit=C:\Windows\system32\userinit.exe,If the above values are different, then you must correct them. These entries are hidden from programs such as msconfig, and are thus easy targets for malware authors to "embed" ther stuff in a place that cannot easily be removed. -- dzomlija ____________________________________ Peter Alexander Dzomlija Do you hear, huh? | Re: Windows Vista Black Screen after login I have the same problem... exactly the same problem. It's not network activity, it's HD activity. I log in, i get a black screen with only my mouse cursor, and that's it. Nothing happens, if i press crtl-alt-delete i get the correct screen and i can choose options there, but if i choose task manager i get returned to the black screen. Can log on in safe mode, and that works normal, but have not been able to fix it. Could it in any way be related to installing open office? That's the only major change i made before the problems started. -- Sotekone |

| Re: Windows Vista Black Screen after login I have the same issue...black screen after login with only the mouse cursor visible. I have a home server in which I utilize a domain. Though I dont think this is an issue what i think the issue is, is the login account is corrupted some how. The reason i say this is, if i login locally i have no issues, if i login to the domain with different account no issues. so i would suggest to those of you still having issues to create another account under safe mode if it is a local account. If it is a domain account, create another account on the server. -- corrosione |
