what does connect a burner and restart player mean?

Its been over a year i am using this Dell desktop running with Windows Vista. I use to burn CDs on this system regularly and it never gave me any problem. But dont know what went wrong from last week, whenever i try to burn anything it gives me an error message saying:

"connect a burner and restart player.

What is meant by that? Restarting the PC doesn't seems to be working? Any idea how can i get rid of this annoying problem?

To me it sounds like your CD/DVD player is not getting detected properly. Yeah, it is possible. A machine can have such problems thought working for a year. What you need to do is right click My Computer icon on the desktop and click Manage. Select Device Manager from the left pane and see if your DVD device is
enabled of if you see any red or yellow marks on the right pane associated with your driver. You can also click "Action" and select "Scan for hardware changes" if this option appears. Try updating the drivers of DVD drive.
