Screen print

I need to copy the User Account Control window that appears when I start a
program, but neither PrtScr nor Alt-PrtScr captures it. Is there any way to
capture this?

I just tried this. Pressed "Print Screen" key (on keyboard) and then opened
Word 2007, right clicked on blank page and chose "paste" and it worked.

You could try using Hypersnap-DX. I am not sure if it will work in this UAC
security scenario, but you try to make it take timed a snapshot after x
seconds.

That will not give the professional quality that he might need if he was
making a help file for an application, or similar.

If my suggestion of using Hypersnap-DX does not work, I just thought of
another way, albeit a bit involved...

He could run Vista, and his program, in VirtualPC (free) and take a snapshot
of that instead.

Does this help? Lifted from a Google search. I forgot to mention I have
"Secure Desktop" disabled.

You may disable secure desktop. That will allow you to take screen captures
using CTRL+PRINT SCREEN and pasting it into MSPAINT then cropping the image
to the UAC prompt.

At Run command type secpol.msc or gpedit.msc and in Computer Configuration
go to Window Settings > security settings > local policies > security
options >
User Account Control: Switch to the secure desktop when prompting for
elevation | select radial DISABLED.

Do you think the fact that I'm still using (trying to use) Word 97, which
seems not to work well under Vista, might be the problem?

That did it! I was able to use Alt-PrtScr and paste the screen shot into
Word. Thanks.

Is there any security risk in changing this setting? (I'm the only one who
uses this computer.) I'll bet there are lots of other things

Yes there is a security risk, but it's a risk I'm prepared to live with. You
yourself however could re-enable the setting and only disable it as and when
you need to do a screen dump.

Thanks, Rob. My unfinished sentence was that there are probably other
settings that are interfering with things that worked under XP that could be
changed. I guess I'm going to have to find a book on Vista.
