    Nero Software Doesn't Work

    I looked on
    http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.ph...atibility_List
it says that the Nero 7 Ultra Edition Enhanced v. 7.8.5.0 says that it is
compatible with Vista. I am having some problems when I try to run the
installation, it gets to the part saying Windows is configuring to do the
setup for Nero 7 but after its done nothing happens. Can somebody tell me
why nothing is happening and can somebody direct me on how to fix this?

    Re: Nero Software Doesn't Work

    Hi,

Sorry for I don't have the link handy, but you could go to their support
pages and look for a cleaner utility and use it for removing any previous
    entries.

I accidentally installed v.7.0xx version and went into some problems and
then used the cleaner utility for removing everything and the later
    installation went well.

Good luck and hope this helps.

PS: Thanks for the tip shared by others.

I found that the Full install version of Nero (from the website, 411MB or
    so) works properly

    Re: Nero Software Doesn't Work

I've had a lot of problems lately with the recent Nero 7 version that is
compatible with Vista. I sort of resented having to buy such a huge, bulky
    program because
it's the only one that is Vista Compatible, but hey whatever.

My advice is to custom install it and I would suggest leaving out 'Nero
    Home',
since I've noticed Vista doesn't really like that part of the program.

I've had to use Nero's Cleaning Tool to get Nero out of my system
    to get a fresh install.

What Happened? Nero used to be all the rage among geeks as a
CD burning program. Now Nero has gone & gotten way over-bloated.

Good Luck, You may need it,...Frank

I believe now that Roxio, also a huge, bulky bloated program is Vista
Compatible and, based on what I read here, is better in some ways than
Nero, at least for the 64 bit version.

I had no trouble installing Nero 7.8.5.0 into 64bit home premium on a new
system. I did turn off that user account control first and FWIW McAfee 8.5
    Antivirus was not installed yet.

I have had similar problems with upgrades of Nero (and also Acronis True
Image) and in each case I found it necessary to delete the "temp" directory
in the hidden "local settings" as Nero (and TI) had left over catalogs that
    caused the installation to hang.

from the "search" type in CMD, hit return and cd to "local settings" There
is a hidden temp directory there. I would do a "dir/s *nero*" and look for
any previous or failed installions of nero and remove them - or just get rid
    of everything ..

You should be able to delete the "temp" directory (and the files in it) and
then immediately re-create it as in (make sure you are in "local settings"

    rmdir /s temp
    mkdir temp

    Re: Nero Software Doesn't Work

I tried for 4 times to install Nero with different configurations and I
could get rid of a relentless
Window that kept coming up saying "Nero Home Has Stopped Working".
I also tried installing it after disabling my AV and SP programs and to no
    avail.
So I'm leaving it for now....

I'm going to try InfraRecorder Software, which
is Vista Compatible (it says... and free and open source).
    http://infrarecorder.sourceforge.net/

I'm Not a Linux or open source fanatic by any means. As a matter of fact,
I booted Ubuntu from a CD last night just for curiosity and I was somewhat
unimpressed. I'm starting to see just how much hype there is around all
    that.

Free and open source? I believe you get what you pay for. InfraRecorder
may very well prove that to be true, so we'll see. I found Ubuntu to be
    extremely bland
and dry-looking compared to Vista or even XP.

Only Eye candy? Maybe so, but when we're at our computers we generally
look at the screen an awful lot, so it's worth it to have a good looking
    program.

I appreciate Vista's up-ing the bar on goodlooking desktop graphics. It's
    long overdue
and about time. Now how'd I get here from talking about Nero?

    Thanks, Frank

I should have mentioned not to install home or scout. I have done at least
20 nero installs and starting about 6 or for sure 7 they loaded their
software with the preverbial kitchen sink. At the end of the install
(assumeing you get that far) uncheck all options except quick launch of
StartSmart. I think there are 4 pages of options maybe 5.

Be sure to uninstall nero and delete that temp directory before another
    install.

Yes, I should have mentioned the later installation in my case was using the
    latest version.

We had no problems installing the latest version of Nero on Windows
Server 2007 (which is mostly Vista compatible) except that two DLLs
having to do with HD DVDs failed to register. I agree that Nero has
become bloated beyond belief. Also, there have been reports that Nero 7
has copy restrictions that are not present in Nero 6.

I downloaded the 411mb off the Nero website for Nero 7 and after I go through
the installation process nothing ends up happening after the part when
Windows is configuring Nero. Second I can't seem to delete NBShell.dlll
(Nero BackItUp) and Nero Scout). My guess why nothing is happening is
because of the these two files that are still on my computer. I downloaded
the General Cleaning Tool but I can't seem to delete these files with that
    program.

Check your event viewer for any critical, error or warning messages:
from that vista "start" icon enter EVENTVWR.MSC and press return. See if
you can spot any problems that occured during the nero install time (last
    hour or whenever)

I assume you uninstalled nero and then tried the general cleaning tool to
    finish the install?

The following assumes you have uninstalled nero

Back at that "start" enter CMD then type "cd app" and press the tab key.
you should end up in "appdata"
there should be 3 directories: local, locallow and and roaming
    type "dir /s ahead"
and get rid of any ahead directories
There should be an ahead directory in c:\user\yourname\appdata\local and in
    roaming

change to the "local" directory and get rid of that temp directory in it.
Possibly it will actually be removed, if so, then re-recreate it using the
    command
    mkdir temp
usually there ia an active log file in "temp" that prevents temp from being
deleted but all the other uselsss files are removed that can cause problems.

Suggest you turn off "user account control" to avoid the constant prompts or
nags. AFAIK only adobe reader 8 fails to install when user account control
is disabled. One of my kids installed nero and adobe last night on home
premium upgrade and we had to turn that UAC back on for adobe.

Post if you get it to work. Nero does have a problem web page and they
usually respoind in 24 hours. There is a nero forum and you can also get
help at that cdfreaks site as they host a nero sdk group independent of
    nero.

    Re: Nero Software Doesn't Work

I emailed the Nero support team and this is what they responded to my
problem, "Start by uninstalling the version currently installed, by using the
add/remove programs, then use the clean tool attached to remove any remaining
parts of the program, Go to www.nero.com and under downloads, and updates
click on Nero 7, Save Nero 7 to the computer, Once downloaded, double click
to install the program and use the serial number from the back of the cd case
to unlock the demo and make it a full version." This is exactly what was
said in this blog and I tried this. I also tried what was said by Beemer
Biker but I couldn't get some of the steps down. Has anyone had this problem
besides me, it seems like I have tried the most common solutions but none of
them has been working. Is their any other blogs or forums that I can be
    directed towards?
