| No Chinese in Windows Vista Language Interface Pack (LIP)???
I am using Windows Vista Home Premium English edition. According to my understanding, only 'Ultimate' or 'Enterprise' users can download the 'Multilingual User Interface Pack' (MUI). I guess the LIP is my only solution. It's freely available to download, unfortunately, I was not able to find CHINESE in the Microsoft Local Language list!!!! By the way, I have no problem reading and typing Chinese characters. But when I tried to install some Chinese programs/softwares, the wizards and dialog boxes in Chinese could not be displayed properly. Appreciate your kind advice! |

I'm afraid that's all that's available and if Chinese isn't an option for you via LIP, your option is either to get ultimate or enterprise, but better still because they are limited, to get a full Chinese language version. The links which you've probably consulted are here: There are two types of language files--and both are partial but either may be what you're looking for. MUI available only in Vista Ultimate and Enterprise are the most extensive--but LIP are available for any edition of Vista. I'm not sure which Vista you have--but you may want to look into these: How do I get additional language files? http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...b5ecc1033.mspx If you have Enterprise or Ultimate you can look into MUI. But even if you don't, you can download the LIP files, and see if they will do the job for you. LOL I don't know how fluent you might be in Japanese either. LIP files can be downloaded from here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=66923 http://www.microsoft.com/industry/go...e/default.aspx ""Because not all of the user interface is translated, LIPs require at least one parent language. The parts of the user interface that are not translated into the LIP language are displayed in the parent language. When you download a LIP, you are given the parent language requirements for that language. The parent language pack needs to be installed before the LIP can be installed." |

| Re: No Chinese in Windows Vista Language Interface Pack *(LIP)???
I noticed this today from Bink: I don't know why but the Ultimate Extra's language pacls for Windows Vista are not available when running the Windows Update tool on Vista. Well get them here: Anyhow, the standalone language packs for Windows Vista 32bit Ultimate or Enterprise Standalone Links to Language Pakcs (Chinese Is Listed) UPDATE from Bink: I contacted Microsoft: "The Windows Update team is investigating the issue". If I get more information I will post it in this article. |

Thanks! I just wanted to clarify whether there is Chinese in the LIP. As I am using the Windows Vista Home Premium, I don't think I will be able to use MUI... Anyway, I am trying to download from the 'Standalone Links to Language Packs' to see if it works on my system. |

Actually what you have to do to read chinese character when installing programme is to change the system locale to chinese first. Follow the following steps (taken from http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...64d1033.mspx): 1. Open Regional and Language Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Clock, Language, and Region, and then clicking Regional and Language Options. 2. Click the Administrative tab, and then, under Language for non-Unicode programs (System Locale), click Change system locale. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. 3. Select the language, and then click OK. To restart your computer, click Restart now. |

Notice that it says: "[...]to display information in programs that do not use Unicode." For programs using Unicode, one doesn't need to go through all these troubles, so for your future benefits, asking your application vendors use Unicode-based programming as much as possible. Hey, we are in a global market now, and it will only benefit them for more potential markets/users but not less. |

| Re: No Chinese in Windows Vista Language Interface Pack (LIP)???
Thank you for your solution. My chinese programs displays chinese properly after changing the system's locale language for unicode-programs. For the whole system to display in another language I guess MUI or LIP packages are needed. Thank you again. |
