| "unspecified error during System Restore" - Vista Operating System
My problem is with the System Restore. When I clicked on a shortcut to System Restore I got: "The ordinal 2 could not be located in the dynamic link library SRRSTR.DLL". However, when I used another method to run System Restore, I found it appears to have created restore points without incident, as numerous Restore Points are present. BUT when I selected a Restore Point, even the oldest Point, Restore ran and eventually said: "System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed. An unspecified error occured during System Restore." I ran SFC /SCANNOW. The verification process went to 100% and then the window disappeared. No message was shown. Should I have received a message if everything was okay or if it had found and fixed a file? What now? Is there a way to fix Restore without resorting to the Recovery discs I made when the HP PC was new four months ago? Thanks in advance for your help. |

| re: "unspecified error during System Restore" - Vista Operating System
Here is a fix for that problem. A telephone service rep named Murray at HP told me the System Restore program must be corrupted and the only way to resolve the issue was to use the System Recovery Disks to take the PC back to when-new condition. Before I was ready to take that drastic action I phoned HP again for a second opinion and got a different technician, Naomi. She tried using Safe Mode to run System Restore. It works fine from there. The program was NOT corrupted. It is a little inconvenient to run System Restore from Safe Mode but far preferable to reinstalling all my programs after using Recovery Disks, especially with no guarantee that Restore would work even then. The suspicion is that something else I have running is conflicting with the Restore program. But, hey, as long as it works from Safe Mode, I am content. I post this answer for the benefit of anyone faced with the same issue. |

Would you mind posting this problem on The Filing Cabinet (http://blogs.technet.com/filecab/contact.aspx), the blog for the backup team, so that the team can help you further diagnose your problem? |
