Solution: Getting the Motorola PC850 Bluetooth dongle to work with windows vista

There was a thread in this newsgroup about getting the PC850 to work
with Windows Vista but it cannot be replied to with Google Groups.

If you're using the driver cd the PC850 came with, or the driver
download offered on motorola's website, it will not work period. Don't
expect the generic drivers that vista automatically installs for the
dongle to work within vista's proprietary bluetooth control panel.

The PC850 DOES works with a newer version of the widcomm bluetooth
driver that originally came with your PC850. The interface and setup
is the same as pc850's bluetooth control panel if you've used it in
xp, except now it functions in vista.

I got this version to work with windows vista and my pc850

    http://rapidshare.com/files/7270107/...0_x64.rar.html

This is a newer version of the drivers that were included with your
pc850 and what motrorola offers themselves on their support page.
It worked like a charm, and my pc no longer freezes anymore whenever i
plug in my dongle, i read that some were having that same problem.

There is an even newer version, but i have yet to try it out, frankly
since the 5.1.0.2700 works i'm not going to push my luck and try the
newer version but in case you want it, its available here:

    http://rapidshare.com/files/47514859...32bit.rar.html

Let me know how it goes for you, just trying to spread the information
because motorola is not really being helpful with vista
implementation, and they are not telling their customers that there
    are
newer versions of the widcomm drivers available online, you just have
to scour the internet for them.

I found this thread while surfing the internet, trying to figure out why my PC850 won't work on vista home basic 32 bit, so I'm downloading the 32 bit version you posted and trying that.

This is my first Bluetooth, and my 15th Motorola product and so far in 44 years I'm not very impressed with the service Motorola provides, I called them about this problem and all they said was I needed to either buy a XP computer or get a different Bluetooth device.
If I gave out customer service like that I'd be fires in 3 days

OK downloaded the 32 bit version, it tries to update but says the license isn't valid on this computer O/S.

Ladies and Gentlemen as of 1700 hrs EST (-5:00hrs GMT for anybody overseas) I now have a program from Motorola that makes the PC850 work on Windows Vista.
    The file is BTW5.1.0.1201_with_install_Menu.
I found it scouring the internet before my brand new Bluetooth device got a flight lesson and I juts finished sending a ringtone that I made from computer to wireless phone using the Bluetooth device :)

I hope you got it working, I had a whole lot of other Vista issues since I bought this computer, and about a week ago I solved every one of them, I bought a copy of windows XP for $187 :) My pc850 has never run better, along with my printer working again and my mouse and everything else. I still have the vista driver if anybody need them.

I downloaded the BTW5.1.0.1201_with_install_Menu file from Motorola, but am not sure how to install it. It doesn't have an extension. Any idea on how to get this thing to install in Vista? Thanks!

figured the file out. It's a .zip file, and Vista didn't recognize it. I'm installing now and hopefully on my way to getting the PC850 working on Vista. Thanks!

I have been chasing this issue for a while now and now have a fully functioning Motorola PC850 dongle as well as my Motorola HT820 stereo headset in Windows Vista. There is an updated driver for the Widcomm stack, and although the PC850 is not supported by either Motorola or Widcomm it works and can be downloaded here:

    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...e&dno=5286&i=0

The file name is Vista32(64)_BTW6.0.1.3400.zip. Hope this helps you guys out.
