How to Install Active X Control
I have Windows Vista Ultimate (64-bit) and Internet Explorer 7 (64-bit) preinstalled on my computer. I would like to know how to download and install Active X control on my computer. I have no idea how to do that. Would appreciate any help anyone may have. --Eric Ogawa |

Re: How to Install Active X Control
In Vista ultimate you need to install the ActiveX installer service. Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn windows features on or off. Once the ActiveX installer service is installed, got to services and start it and then set it to either start Manually or automatically. Then when a program needs an ActiveX file it will be automatically installed. iirc you will be prompted by UAC to allow the install. |

Re: How to Install Active X Control
The maker of the ActiveX control will have the installer. There are many. In particular, what program or plug-in are you trying to install? |

Re: How to Install Active X Control
You'd need to supply more information about what you're trying to achieve eg viewing a web page or getting a particular program to work correctly etc |

Re: How to Install Active X Control
Eric, Active X controls are installed by web site. Normally Banks, Microsoft, etc. Help returned this: Maybe. You should be cautious about installing ActiveX controls, sometimes called add-ons, on your computer, even if they have a valid digital signature. While ActiveX controls can enhance web browsing, they might also pose a security risk, and it's best to avoid using them if the webpage will work without them. However, some websites or tasks might require them, and if the content or task is important to you, you will have to decide whether to install the ActiveX control. Before installing an ActiveX control, consider the following: Were you expecting to receive this control? Are you surprised that this website is trying to download an ActiveX control? Has this website required you to use an ActiveX control in the past? If this action is unexpected, you should be very cautious. Make sure you know what the control is for and what it will do to your computer before you save or run the file. Do you trust the website providing the control? Don't install an ActiveX control unless you absolutely trust the website that is giving you the control and the publisher to created the control. When you install the ActiveX control, Internet Explorer displays a dialog box that identifies the publisher, and asks if you want to run the file. Click Don't run if you do not trust the publisher. Do you know what the control is for and what it will do to your computer? The website providing the file should tell you what this ActiveX control is for and provide any special details you need to know before you install it. If this information is not available, you should not install the control. |

Re: How to Install Active X Control
I have been trying to get Active X Control to work on my new Windows Vista Computer for a month now. I need it for work. I tried this last piece of advice, BUT I cannot find Active X Controll Installer Service on my windows features on or off screen anywhere. I saw in a picture it is listed first above GAMES, but it is not on my computer. I have also tried to manually to install the Active X control by putting it in "Downloads" folder and opening a command prompt : regsvr32 msrdp.ocx But, I get the error message - The module "msrdp.ocx" failed to load Make sure binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files The specified module could not be found. Why can't I get Active X to work on this new computer? |
