Error 0x800705AD insufficient quota to complete reqd service

Error 0x800705AD insufficient quota to complete reqd service

What does this mean and how do I fix it?

I have had this message before when transferring files from a network USB
device, and thought it had something to do with Vista's stupid paranoid
permissions, but now I have got it simply copying large amounts of large
files from the interal DVD drive of the laptop to the laptop's HD!

When copying from a network USB device and this happens it actually corrupts
the data. That didn't happen this time, but it did refuse to copy the last
few files and any subsequent files from anywhere to anywhere until you
reboot.

Quotas are disabled. How can this happen?

oops, actually I WAS copying it to a folder on an external USB HD connected
to another machine, my mistake, so it IS a networking problem. But what
causes it and how is it fixed?
