Norton GoBack

Norton GoBack was Outstanding.

Is there any other utility out there that can do the same or better for
Windows Vista??

I'm desperate; System Restore SUCKS!!

I don't want to have be backing up files just to get my system to goback to
a
better time.

If you know something, say something.

Re: Norton GoBack

GoBack certainly does backup files. It does it in the background and
constantly. It also places quite a drain on system resources.

I gave up on GoBack 3 years ago. I use Acronis TrueImage scheduled to create
an incremental backup every 4 hours.

Re: Norton GoBack

You might try Rollback Rx. Similar to GoBack, and works ok.

Re: Norton GoBack

Zapp..
As a long time user of Symantec products and knowing that many folks actually liked GoBack(I thought it was one of the worst products they ever took over and released). Though I was never a fan of System Restore either.

For XP or Vista, I'm a firm believer turning any restore function off and to echo Richard' s comment use image software. I've used both with success in Vista(Ghost12 or Acronis True Image 10).

Re: Norton GoBack

Acronis True Image does a great job for me.

I hated GoBack. Too system intensive. System restore works pretty well in
Vista, better than in XP. It's a useful tool for it's purpose, a roll back
of the system needed for a _recent_ issue. For longer term backup I use
Acronis True Image to image daily to an external hard drive.

Re: Norton GoBack

Great thread. I've been using Roxio GoBack Deluxe 3 on my old XP box. I was
just wondering how to best proceed on the new Vista system. I have a couple
of questions. Can any of you compare the two options suggested? Do they both
backup across a network? Does one use more resources than the other? I'm
ready to buy one and install it today but would like this additional input
first.

BTW... my system has a built in RAID so I'm protected against hard drive
failure that way. HP forces a D partition with full system recovery to
original state which I'm not suppose to touch or they void their support. I
have a 300 gb external usb drive and I'm networked to my old XP box. I'm
open to suggestions on the best strategies to use for this process.

Thanks,
Sheila

Re: Norton GoBack

TrueImage HOME 10.0 build 4940 is 100% Vista compatible and can be
configured to store the images on a network drive.

Any serious computer user should not be without this program. It **WILL**
save your bacon some day.
