    CHKDSK and Autochk.exe File Question?

Does anyone know if there is a 64-bit compatible version of autochk.exe? When
I try to run it, it says it it is not 64-bit compatible and when I try to
schedule chkdsk to run it will not run on the next restart. Anyone have any
suggestions? I am running Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

Thanks for the link. When I try to run chkdsk like it says in the link, I get
the following message: autochk.exe can not run in Win32 mode. What do I do?

Re: CHKDSK and Autochk.exe File Question?

It's supposed to say that, at least that's what it says on my Vista (32 bit)
system when autochk.exe is working. The key to getting autochk.exe to run on
startup is the registry or the easy way (drive properties->tools or chkntfs
/c). Check out this page - it's about chkdsk, chkntfs, and autochk:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/218461

    --The normal registry value is

    Hkey_local_machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\

    BootExecute:REG_MULTI_SZ: autocheck autochk *

All this does is run autochk.exe on startup to check if any non-excluded
(see above webpage) drives are dirty. When you actually schedule a scan, it
adds parameters like /P, /k, /m, and volume names to the value. If eveything
is working right autochk then runs chkdsk to check the indicated volume.

Hope this helps, I'm not sure if it's exactly the same on 64-bit OSs.
