Destination Folder Access Denied

Hello Everyone!

New Problem.

I am being troubled by some issues when trying to delete folders
either on my desktop or from within my C\ drive, typically video
folders or TS Files and various other folders at various times.

I go through the usual UAC process and eventually recieve a dialogue
box telling me "Destination Folder Access Denied" which I presume is
the recycle bin, underneath the title bar of this message box in the
main window, it informs me that "you need permission to perform this
action", to which I have re-tried etc, but it keeps blocking me.

If I open the folder and delete the individual files to begin with, I
can eventually delete the folder (once empty), but why can I not seem
to just delete a folder as and when I wish?

This is quite annoying!

Hi,

That's not UAC. That's a permissions issue. Have you checked (or messed with
the) permissions on the C:\Users\<user>\desktop folder? Your account should
have full control on this folder and should be listed as the owner of it.

And as mentioned in another thread (perhaps by you), if you have data on
another drive/partition that was created under XP, the same issue may
result.

But, a question: What should the permissions under Vista's Program Files
look like? I'm finding that "Users" (of which I'm a member) is not getting
Full Control on folders but *sometimes* is on the files within the folders.
Is that to be expected under UAC? What accounts for this variability, the
given program's installer? I'm thinking restricted folder permissions might
cause a problem with some applications, but am unsure, and am considering
going to the top of Program Files and giving "Users" permission to it all.

Change your permissions to "Full Control" and you can do anything you
want.

If you are bringing files/folders over from XP then they will inherit
the permissions given them in XP. If you want to change that you'll
have to use your admin privileges to give you full control in Vista.

Yes, it's a pain but that's what MS has sold you.

Yes, but these are programs installed under Vista. There doesn't seem to be
any real pattern when examining this area: some files under PF have full
control, others don't. And none of the folders do, though I think if the
files do that takes precedence.

Thanks everyone for the responses.

I am not very competent with PC's in general and I did create some
time ago a couple of different accounts which I tried to delete under C
\users and they just seem to have reappeared presumably after a
restart. I find this kind of thing confusing at the best of times. I
mean why does it have to be such a complex thing to acheive something
reasonably simple? I find this frustrating.

I am grateful however to be able to post to this group and try to gain
more understanding and possibly learn a thing or two!

In simple terms, how can I sort it? How do I "take control" of files
and folders? I am afraid I just don't have that kind of wisdom....and
would appreciate some info on how to delete previous user accounts
that I no longer use or need and how can I gain control over all the
folders and files on MY computer?

Surely it can't be that difficult - even for me!

This response, like the information/design of Microsoft operating systems such as Vista, is arrogant and treats owners and users with disrespect. There is no reason for Microsoft to make it so difficult for owners to determine how to use and control their own computers. And this simplistic answer does not in fact help without clarification as to how this can be done and the implications for restarting your computer, etc. Help in this site would be much better if it is in fact helpful!
