Calendar reminders

Has anybody heard if there's any progress on getting Windows Calendar
reminders to show when the calendar isn't running?

reminders run via scheduled tasks.
helps if have uac enabled as well.

Hi Chris,

Give this a try:
1. open Windows Calendar
2. click on File (on menu toolbar)
3. click on Options
4. check *Reminders should show when Windows Calendar is not running*
5. click OK to apply

Hi Shawn,

I have tried your method but it's not working and I am getting error message.

The Windows Calendar's Reminder is a very fantastic features and any body
can utilize this amazing features inbuilt in Windows Vista.

MS Vista Support must have to fix this problem. Hope to get support for this
particular features from Vista Support team or some from all the group who
has successfuly used this reminder services from the Windows Calendar.

Its not a fix needed Raj because Calendar has it if you go the the File
menu and select Options. Under Calendar you find a tick box about it.

But, turning the option on does not cause reminders to work................

Calendar reminders are set via a scheduled task in Task Scheduler, so look
at the properties of the task in Task Scheduler if there's a problem with
it. The history tab will show if there's been any errors.

All I can find under calendar in windows vista is new task. have no idea how
to proceed from there. can you help?

Hi all. I'm new here, and only really registered because I wanted to
reply to this post. So I apologize in advance if either this question
has already been answered elsewhere, or I break some rule or something.
I believe I have stumbled across a fix. It helps to understand what
exactly Windows Calendar is doing behind the scenes to handle reminders.

As previously stated, Windows Calendar makes use of Task Scheduler to
handle its reminders when the calendar is closed. Under the
WindowsCalendar folder, you can see your existing scheduled tasks for
Windows Calendar: at most, there should be one with the name "Reminders
- <-username->". Here, in a nutshell, is how events should occur:

1) User opens calendar
2) Calendar checks for any existing scheduled tasks and deletes them
(there's no point in having a scheduled task if the calendar is open)
3) User closes calendar
4) On the calendar's way out, it scans itself for the next upcoming
event, and creates a new scheduled task to handle the reminder.
5) Scheduled task runs the calendar
6) Loop back to step 2

The problem that myself and I believe other users are having is that
there is an existing scheduled task that the calendar is having problems
deleting (I don't know why this is happening, but if someone else wants
to find out, I'd be all ears). Since it can't delete it, it can't make a
new one on exit, because it wants to make one with the same name as an
existing task (akin to creating 2 files with the same name in the same
location).

To see if this is your problem open up Task Scheduler, navigate to the
WindowsCalendar folder, and see if you have an existing task with the
name "Reminders - <-username->". If so, click on it, then click on the
Triggers tab. You should see 2 triggers: 1 at log on, and another for an
exact date/time. If that date/time is in the past, then you appear to
have the same issue I did.

So the fix:

1) Close Windows Calendar if it is open
2) Delete any existing scheduled tasks that appear in the
WindowsCalendar folder of Task Scheduler
3) Open Windows Calendar
4) Close Windows Calendar

Go back to Task Scheduler, right click on the WindowsCalendar folder
and click Refresh. You should see a new scheduled task set up to handle
your next upcoming reminder. Hope this helps. :)

Again, if anyone can figure out what is causing the existing task from
getting deleted on exit, please post back. It would help to avoid this
problem in the future.

How do we find out whether Microsoft is aware of, and addressing this problem?
