| hardware may not support booting to this disk
I am trying to install Vista Business on a ECS K7S5A motherboard. When I get to, "Where do you want to install Windows" I get, This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the disk's controller is enabled in the BIOS menu. I two drives in this computer and the same message is reported for both. The Total size and free space for both is report wrong. If I select one and click "Next" I get, "Windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation". Mainboard not compatable? Am I screwed? Thanks PZ |

| Re: hardware may not support booting to this disk
Problem Solved, This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:. The computer has two or more uninitialized hard disks. . You started the computer by using Windows Vista installation media. CAUSE This problem occurs because Windows Vista cannot distinguish between ambiguous hard disks. In versions of Microsoft Windows Setup that are earlier than Windows Vista Setup, hard disks are marked with distinct values to distinguish them. However, this method of distinguishing hard disks is no longer supported because of the potential for data corruption on hard disks. Back to the top RESOLUTION To resolve this problem, follow these steps:1. Create one or more partitions on all the hard disks that are not initialized. 2. Restart the computer. 3. Install Windows Vista. |

| Re: hardware may not support booting to this disk There must be another reason this also happens. Both of my drives are configured and have partitions. XP was able to boot from them just fine... The primary partition was removed and re-created for the installation of Vista. The secondary partition still contains data and has not been changed. Any other suggestions? I'm really stuck. -- Steven Bell |
