This is a Netgear product. I don't see Vista mentioned in any of the system requirements? You might want to email their support people and ask if a Vista compatible version is available or planned in the near future. -- Ronnie Vernon Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User "Lyam Körkkö" <lyam@home.se> wrote in message news:230E6655-AFE5-4779-9987-EB53E7041A4E@microsoft.com... > Hello all > > i have a SC101 Storage Central > (http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/sc101v1.asp) but as per my uppgrade > ti vista i can nolonger use it ... > > anyone know if it is in MS intrest or Netgers to make the driver .... id > like to be able to use the cabinet still ... it´s not that old and works > perfect for backups and stuff. > > Best Regards > Lyam Körkkö > Sweden |

The SC101 does not seem to (still) have a Vista compatible driver, even after the software and Firmware update. (Drives can be set to sleep after a time of non use (NOT configurable). The unit DOES run cooler. What seems worse is my Dual Boot XP/Vista system can not load the update (My other computers have been updated and the SC101 firmware updated to V2) due to SCSI Miniport driver problems (Might be a clash with my RAID SCSI miniport driver?) THERE IS NO ROLL BACK according to the Netgear site. I currently share the SC101 (mounted) drive from a W2k box. Clunky, but I can get at the files from Vista or W9x (which was also not supported. Note Netgear has a NEW model now that replaces the SC101. |

The SC101 completely sucks. The SW inside is antiquated and they do not provide any Vista drivers still. They shortly removed the message on their beta driver site which was "will be made available in the first half of 2007" before. Now the field is emtpy and no message appears. Moreover SC101 has problems because a cooler is missing and the HDs run very hot (at least 50-60°C) all time in use which certainly will strongly decrease the life time of any disk. I will never buy any netgear product again. Better spend more money on products from a reliable manufacturer. BTW anybody wants to buy a used SC101? |

Thi is just my own opinion, but some hardware/software manufacturers are using the release of Vista as an excuse to force people to purchase newer hardware/software instead of simply offering upgraded drivers or Vista compatible versions. I can see why they would do this for very old hardware/software, but some of these products were released within the last year. Not a good situation. -- Ronnie Vernon Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User <groupanswers@rattat.net> wrote in message news:1178001400.665541.251270@e65g2000hsc.googlegroups.com... This suck for a product I had less than 1 year. (/Vista/ incompatibility with my old reliable P1 based Netware server *was* the reason I bout the SC101. Double sucks) >BTW anybody wants to buy a used >SC101? Frys was selling (out?) of these at less than $75. |

You are right, the new firmware does allow to shut down the drives when idle But this doesn't help at al if you listen to music all day long. Now in the last weeks we had temperatures around 25°C or higher. Having the sc101 running will heat up the drive to at least 70-80°C and you better turn of the station completely if you don't want to lose your disks. Still no Vista drivers. Triple sucks! |

Hi Guys, Let me just start to say that this product also has been the reason for unnessesary fustration........ :-( My problem should have been able to be solved easily on the support website of NetGear, but no go..... I have a NetGeart SC101 and I am just trying to get hold of the "storage central manager" for the netgear sc101 for installment on my computer (I am not looking for firmware) I have several computers, so it is not an issue for me about it has to be for Vista, as I also have an XP on one of my computers. I just need this to get access to the drive in order to recover my old data on the drive..... Can anyone help?? :-) Thank you in advance. Tesen |
