Vista Complete Backup could not find backup devices

I'm trying to create a complete PC backup on Vista Ultimate. I'm using an external USB harddrive NTFS formatted.

I have already backup once, as noted by the "Last backup:" information, but I had to format the ext USB drive containing the backup image.

Now, I'm trying to create a new complete backup but Vista doesn't recognize the USB harddrives (two of them) I have plugged in. It seems that the "complete PC backup" doesn't want to "let go" of the previous backup it had made and allows for a new complete backup. It just gives me the error.

Any suggestion of how to "reset" Vista Complete PC backup so it doesn't keep looking for the previous backup and let me do a new backup?

I'll ask about this--sorry for the delayed response.

Re: Vista Complete Backup could not find backup devices

Can you email me the files from %windir%\logs\completepcbackup\*.etl? Zip
them and use my email address minus "online."

Thank you for responding. What is your email? I do not see it.

This is not related to the backup issue but when I googled "vista backup 0X8007007B", I get several hits. On at least 6 different sites are the same posts and replies, by the same original poster and you (Jill Z). I was just wondering, which site should I actually be using? I'm responding to you via Vista Complete Backup could not find backup devices.

The site that I mentioned are as followed,

http://www.vista64.net/forums/vista-...pc-backup.html

http://help.lockergnome.com/vista/Vi...pict33517.html

http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-3017320.php

http://www.winforumz.com/vista/Vista...pict17247.html

http://www.developerfood.com/vista-c...1/article.aspx

http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=689077

It is as if all these sites are just different "fronts" for a single site. I doubt that the same user is posting the same question on the separate site, as well as you responding with the same answer. Like I said, this is not related to the CompletePC Backup issue, so you don't have to answer.

Re: Vista Complete Backup could not find backup devices

I think there are a lot of sites that repost the Vista newsgroups. I only
post in one place, the microsoft.public.windows.vista newsgroups. I have
never participated in the other forums you listed.

My email address is part of the properties of this message.

You are using a website forum (Techarena) which mirrors all of the messages
posted to the Microsoft Support Newsgroups and sends all messages posted to
Techarena forums to these newsgroups. You will not be able to see the email
address of any posters unless they are a member of the Techarena forums.

You can use a newsreader, such as Windows Mail (included in Vista) to access
these newsgroups. This is a better option, in my opinion, since you can
interact better with other posters.

Here is a website that has instructions for setting up Windows Mail to
access these newsgroups directly.

Ok, I'll look into the newsreader thing, but that'll have to wait. I will send you the email with the files you had requested later.

One question, does Vista Ultimate Complete PC Backup stores information about previous backup somewhere? If so, is there a way I can remove that information so Complete PC backup would just get on with making a "Complete PC backup"?

Also, does the Vista partition have to be Active? I'm actually thinking of reinstalling XP as the primary OS (my dell laptop originally came with XP MCE 2005) and dual-boot Vista as secondary. Will that have an effect on Complete PC Backup?
