Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working... AGAIN AND AGAIN!!!

Yesterday i was pleased to recieve in the post the long awaited arrival of my
Windows Vista Home Premium upgrade kit for my ACER Aspire 5102 Laptop. The
upgrade process took forever but eventually got there. Now vista is
installed and looks pretty, but it won't let me do ANYTHING. Every window i
open or program I try to run it gives me the message Windows Explorer has
stopped working, it then restarts it and goes back to the desktop. I've
tried restarting the computer several times but that hasn't helped. I
followed all the instructions from ACER to the letter when installing and
their website's technical help doesn't cover this issue. I've read on some
other forums of people having the same problem with different brands of
computer, but haven't been able to find any solutions.
I have been able to get into the Event Viewer and the error reports are
mostly to do with Explorer.exe and one report is as follows...

'Faulting application Explorer.EXE, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp
0x4549b091, faulting module lameACM.acm, version 0.0.9.0, time stamp
0x3ded0254, exception code 0x0000005, fault offset 0x0000116e, process id
    0x15fc, application start time 0x01c77e7f631b5812.'

It's also worth noting that the 'faulting module lameACM.acm' is in about
99% of the error reports on there.

It seems to me the problem has been around for a good few months, and quite
a few people are affected... Why isn't there a solution on the Microsoft
    website???

All intellegent help appreciated. (ie don't tell me to get rid of my laptop
and get a Mac, thats not helpful)
BTW I'm using another computer to write this message as I can't use IE on my
    laptop!

You've installed an incompatible audio codec. Take a look at the following

    http://wer.microsoft.com/responses/R...7-bc4ff9a79831

Do a clean install of Vista do not upgrade over XP.

Also do not quote me but I am pretty sure you do not need to reload
XP to install Vista. Just boot to the CD then the Vista upgrade
process start the installation proccess (it will even format and
partition your hard drive if need be) once the installation has
begun it will ask you to put a XP install disk in or any other
qualifying software disk for varification you qulaify for the
upgrade, then continue installing the full version of Vista.

This is a seldom known, all the prior upgrade disks had this option.

    Vista, explorer.exe

The problem with vista is its an upgrade of windows XP, not an original operating system from scratch. Personally I think its not a very wise approach to the situation. And I believe it was way to soon to release Vista anyway. Explorer.exe is your computer, its nothing without it (i'm sure you realised the hard way like i did). During the upgrade you probably experienced a corrupt file being transferred which has affected explorer.exe. his can be caused by a momentary system freeze, which is likely as you say it took forever, which caused the file corruption. Unfortunately system restore won't work either as the explorer.exe would've been backed up too. Try and connect it to a home network and see if you can't access your pc from another one. If you can, you may be able to salvage all your saved files and then I'm afraid you going to have to reload XP and then Vista again, if that doesn't work then I won't be suprised as Vista hasn't really lived up to all its said to be.

    windows explorer ahs stopped working.

hi guys rhis is ayush for hp consumers come up with asol. if u atr facing the issue with hp computers here is the sol.
sol. 1: you can back up your data and tun a recovery by tapping f11 key on the key board.while booting up if you have got the computer preloaded with vista.

sol for guys who do not want to do recovery and do not use hp computers:

sol:2- when u get the message press crtl+alt+del.
to launch task manager. now go to process tab and rightclick on each process and select end process.
now when u done with that click file and new task run.type in explorer. this will start a new explorer.
now as the new explorer will start the computer will stop giving the message now close every thing.

now select start and run type msconfig and enter.
go to start up tab . select disable all.
then click services and check the box which says hide all microsoft services. and then click disable allrhen apply and oky this will ask u to restart the computer once restarted the problem is solved 100% now u will ger a message says windows has blocked some startup programmes. dont worry just x out that box.
