VISTA - IE7 SECURITY CERTIFICATE ERROR

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A HP TABLET PC WITH VISTA HOME PREMIUM.

WHEN I LOAD IE 7 AND TRY TO CREATE A PROFILE TO REGISTER MY TABLET PC ON
HP.COM.SG/REGISTER IT DOES NOT GIVE ME PERMISSION TO ACCESS THAT WEBSITE. THE
    ERROR MESSAGE IS BELOW:

    "QUOTE"
There is a problem with this website's security certificate.
This organization's certificate has been revoked.

Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or
intercept any data you send to the server.
    "END QUOTE"

I have tried the help information on the microsoft support site but this
does not seem to be helpful. I would be greatful if you would be able to find
me a solution to this problem.

This is not a Vista problem, this is a problem with the certificate issued
to the HP web site. You're going to need to contact HP to get this issue
    resolved.

    DEAR PAUL,

HOW CAN IT BE A PROBLEM WITH THE CERTIFICATE ISSUED TO THE HP SITE AS THIS
PARTICULAR WEBSITE WORKS FLAWLESSLY ON MACHINES WHICH RUN IE7 IN XP. IT IS
ONLY THE MACHINES THAT RUN IE7 IN VISTA THAT CAUSE THIS ERROR, THEREFORE IT
CANNOT BE A PROBLEM WITH HP.

First of all, please turn off your Caps Lock. Using all caps in online
communications is considered to be shouting and rude.

The instance of IE 7 that is causing the problem is configured to check the
revocation status of the certificate, the other instances of IE 7 are not.
The problem is definitely HP's. If the certificate is revoked that means it
    should no longer be accepted.

Hi. I'm having the same problem for many sites.

All of a sudden a couple weeks ago, I started getting error messages related
    to revoked certificates.

Some of these sites include MICROSOFT. I can surf fine in Mozilla Firefox
but not in IE7 (under VISTA).

There has to be an easier way. These revoked certificates are from major
websites like HP, MSN etc etc.

    Best,

Can you provide actual URLs where you are having these issues.
Also, can you be more specific as to the error you are seeing. The error
you provide is way to vague.

Count me in, too! About four or five days ago these Certificate Errors
have been popping up like crazy! At at least five sites that I had
previously been able to access with no problem. This is NOT a site
problem, but a Windows Vista problem. Obviously, one of their recent
updates has a bug in it. Where to I find the fix?

This seems to be obviously a Vista problem... I can't get into AOL, SBC,
AT&T consistently without this error message showing up on IE7, yet I can in
Firefox... I would think that these corporations keep their certificates up
to date, don't you? And if they don't, it should be up to me to click
through to them. I don't even have the option to click through! Is this my
    computer or microsoft's????

surprisingly enough, when I used Mozilla Firefox i was able to go th the
websites that IE7 cannot go to (i.e. paypal and amazon).

    Recap:

Win XP w/ IE6 has no issues with the certificates
Win Vista w/ Firefox has no issues with the certificates
Win vista w/ IE7 prior to 25 April 2007 has no issues with the
    certificates
Win vista w/ IE7 after 25 April 2007 has MAJOR issues with the
    certificates

It is definitely a problem with Vista/IE7

Yup... I think there was an update in March... after that update, IE7 had
major problems. These sites include major sites, so it's an IE7 problem.
Have no problem surfing with Firefox.

This is very frustrating. I cannot surf many important sites ...

Anybody have a fix other than quitting IE7 entirely and using Firefox?

    Sign....
    Please provide an example URL.
(I guess it is too much too ask in this thread!!)
Not to pick on one person, but if everyone would quit the me toos! and
actually post a URL, maybe we could determine what the cause of the issue
    is!

This is a Microsoft bug. See my credentials at www.DanielNorton.net .

Someone at Microsoft can contact me.

Hi the timing solution doesn't seem to work.

This is affecting all the major sites I visit American Express, Polo.com, Amazon, the list goes on.

Microsoft have been no help at all and deny that there is any problem and insists that the security certificates of all these major sites have been revoked which doesn't reallly seem very likely.

Is there any way we can uninstall the update that started all this?

Or is there a way I can override the warning and proceed to the page I am looking for?

At least it's curbed my internet shopping!

    Possible Solution

I have the stated problem about Certification Error when accessing my Yahoo!, Gmail and even my bank account after upgrading to Microsoft Vista. To think that I actually uninstalled Firefox believing that IE7 was good enough.. fortunately Firefox was easily installed and worked fine.

So that was the easy solution...

Another solution I discovered is to go to Internet Options, "Advance" Tab. Under Security, uncheck "Check for server certificate revocation*" and restart IE.

Does that make IE less secure? Probably, but my whole point of using a browser is to access all those pages Microsoft blocked!

Hope it works for you too. =D
