| Microsoft released update for Windows Defender in Vista
An update is available for Windows Defender on Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931099 An update for Windows Defender on Windows Vista has been released. The update corrects a problem in the functionality of Windows Defender malware sample submission. This update applies only to Windows Defender version 1.1.1505.0 on Windows Vista. This problem does not occur in Windows Defender version 1.1.1592.0. This problem also does not occur in later versions of Windows Defender on Windows XP. -- Regards, Donna Buenaventura Windows Security MVP w: http://cou.dozleng.com b: http://msmvps.com/donna |

Of course this update will come automatically through the Windows Update feature. Yes, I heard. But, where can I download it. Microsoft Update does not offer it (to my machine)? Manual updates from Defender itself cannot be done anymore (error code: 0x80240029). tia, stu "Donna Buenaventura" <dbuenaventura@mvps.org> wrote in message news:8489C1A8-B942-448B-9055-35DC2081B534@microsoft.com... > An update is available for Windows Defender on Windows Vista > http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931099 > > An update for Windows Defender on Windows Vista has been released. | Re: Microsoft released update for Windows Defender in Vista
I discovered that my Defender was turned off. When I turned it on, it needed any update. Upon trying to update the same error code 0x80240029 was displayed. I opened IE as an administrator and went to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931099, but there is no upgrade linkage there. You can't install the Defender anew because it is part of Vista. So, now I have a crippled Defender. Is there a doctor in the house? My Defender is version 1.1.1505.0. Excessive crossposting eliminated. Is OneCare installed, William? Microsoft has established separate newsgroups for Windows Defender support and comments. This is not one of them. Almost certain there's no program called "OneCare" on the computer. I don't understand - as quoted below you specifically said "I have tried downloading this file". So, the question is, did you try downloading the correct version of the file? | Re: Microsoft released update for Windows Defender in Vista
I have 32-bit Vista. I've tried downloading the update from the microsoft website via the links somewhere in this forum, the update that supposedly removes the problem. But this is the download or "update" for windows defender that supposedly does not apply to my system. I have Defender, just the"corrupted" version, and i've tried downloading the update to fix it, but my computer won't let me. Hope this clears up any uncertainty.
