| Network Drive Does not Remember Password
Hi, here’s hoping you can help solve my Network problem. When I access my correctly mapped network drive, Vista (Home Premium) asks me for my username and password even though I provided it when I mapped it originally and chose the option to “reconnect at log on”. Is there a way to for Vista to remember my password so I don’t need to do this each time, it drives me nuts! (Please subscribe to this thread so you can get updates).. Thanks in advance |

Since you haven't told us whether the "network drive" is on a domain or not; or whether the "network drive" is one on another computer that is shared - and if so, what OS it is running; or if the "network drive" is a NAS.... So briefly: 1. Vista Home Premium cannot join a domain so if this is where the "network drive" is, you'll have to keep authenticating or upgrade to Business or Ultimate. 2. If the "network drive" is hosted on another computer, have you created an identical username/password on that machine? On the off-chance that your situation is #2, here is a link that explains Vista networking quite well: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/net.../vista_fp.mspx If I guessed wrong about your situation, please post back with the missing details. | Re: Network Drive Does not Remember Password
Microsoft is trying the last 10 years (at least) to develop a proper OS. Those people are completely useless!!! Anyhow a solution to this problem is as follows (works in Vista): 1. map the networks driver of your desire -as usual- by right-clicking on my computer etc. 2. create an .bat file with the following content: net use \\<ip-address> <password> /user:<username> For instance: net use \\192.168.1.11 mypassword /user:usern_name 3. place that .bat file in the start-up directory of Windows, and thats all ! |
