ntvdm cpu illegal instruction error when running Roxo fix

I'm running Vista Business (32 bit)
I am trying to run a Roxio fix, emc9rmv.exe, and get the following error.

    16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem
    emc9rmv.exe
THE NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction

Roxio support told me the fix is Vista compatible
According to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q220155/, since i can start
sysedit there is not an issue with my NTVDM subsystem.

I've already checked for viruses and spyware.

    Any ideas?

Re: ntvdm cpu illegal instruction error when running Roxo fix

Just as when Windows XP was introduced, Roxio issued patches that supposedly
made CD Creator 5 compatible with XP. Most everyone knew that it wasn't
truly compatible. It wasn't until Roxio came out with CD Creator 6 a couple
of months later that true compatibility was achieved.

I would not expect them to be any different this time around. EMC 10 will do
the job, when they get around to releasing it. Seeing the heavy discount
emails I constantly receive from them, it looks like they are trying to run
down their stock of version 9 now. So, you buy version 9 and 2 months later
they release ver 10. Do you get it for free. Of course not. You "may" get a
small discount, however I wouldn't even count on that.

    Hi,

Are you running it from an elevated command prompt?

    Hi,

Click start and type CMD, right click the entry in the start menu and use
'run as administrator'. This will run the prompt with system admin
    privileges.

    Hi,

Sad to say, but if other commands work ok from the command prompt, then the
problem is the file from Roxio. It may simply be a bad download, and you
should try another one. Otherwise, you will have to garner additional
    assistance from them.
