How do you delete unwanted .dll and .exe files

I recently downloaded a program but later decided I did not want it on my
computer. I was able to delete most of the files in the program's folder in
Program Files. But, when I tried to delete the files with .dll and .exe
extentions, I kept getting an error message telling me that I do not have
permission, wheras I am considered the Administrator.
I have read other similar messages on this forum but they have not helped
me. I just cannot make the program to give me permission to delete these. Am
I going about this the right way, or am I missing something?
    Thank you for your help.

Did you "Uninstall" the program using control Panel > Programs and features?

Re: How do you delete unwanted .dll and .exe files

Thank you Mr. Easton. That was helpful. Unfortunately, while I did this with
some of the other programs on my computer, I failed to do "Uninstall" first
on this particualr one. So, I made the mistake of deleting the unist.exe. Is
there anything else I can do?
    Thanks.

You will need to take ownership of the file. In other words you will need to run on a higher elevation.

Take ownership of the file or better still run as Administrator. Right click on file\folder and select Administrator

You might try reinstalling the software and then uninstall it.

Re: How do you delete unwanted .dll and .exe files

Remember Peter, that just deleting a program folder and it's associated
files will likely NOT get all files installed. Installed files go to
multiple folders. Then there are the "possibly" thousands of registry
entries that will remain, pointing to files that no longer exist.

As pointed out by others, the best way is to reinstall the program. Then,
reboot and uninstall the program the correct way. There will still be some
registry entries left over but the majority should be gone.
