It just seems to be a blank web page which takes up the full screen. I never had anything like this in Windows XP, but it is annoying. It sometimes shows up when I change web sites or after I download new updates from Windows Update. The other day I started to play hearts and it started. There is no rhyme or reason that's why it is annoying. I can close it because it shows up in the Task Manager as 'blank page'. It doesn't make sense. |

Hi lindabeilia, The next time you see the 'blank page', before you close it in Task Manager, right-click on it in Task Manger, and choose "Go to Process" (at the bottom of the context menu). The Process tab will open. Take note of the file's name that gets highlighted. Then you can close it on the Applications tab. |

just occured when u vist the web site ? maybe a virus, u can check u IE -"manage add-on" if any interrogatory Active X and then disabble or delete it Sounds to me like an adware process, popping up and attempting to show an ad that is unavailable to it, perhaps thanks to Vista's firewall. I'd scan for adware/spyware, perhaps starting with Windows Defender, since it's already available with Vista. |

Someone must know how to get rid of the pesky blank page! Help!!! What sort of blank page, what file type, is it a doc file, is it from your browser, does it say blank.htm, blank.doc, etc. It sounds as though you may have picked up some malware. Have you run a virus scan have you scanned for malware? it says microsoft windows blank page. it covers the whole screen. to get rid of it temporarily, I right click, and then click : close". but it comes back the very next time I use the pc. |

Have you always had this problem or is it a relatively recent issue? If recent, is there anything you've added, installed, downloaded recently? If you can't pinpoint anything but the problem is recent, you might try using System Restore to take you back to a time prior to when this began. Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore. While System Restore is meant to only restore the registry and system settings to a specific point in time, as a precaution you should make sure your data is well backed up It's not the "about:blank" attack, is it??? |

I started this thread last March and am still having problems with the 'blank page'. I have had a computer technician to my house and my machine cleaned with Anti-Virus software, registry cleaners and then I will download something from Windows Update and GUESS what - the HATED blank screen is back after spending hundreds of dollars to get rid of it. I think it is an issue with Windows Vista - and no one seems know how to get rid of it. I have contacted Microsoft and was treated as if it was "ALL IN MY MIND". If anyone finds a solution I sure would like to have it or know what it is. I hate using my computer now and I hate WINDOWS VISTA. I have the same problem and don't know how to delete the Windows Blank Page I had this problem before,This time it started coming up when I clicked on my Magentic IncrediMail. What do I do to get rid of it? |

| RE: Blank page 'won't go away'
Attn: Dotmay I had a Computer Tech here who ran a Adblocker software and he found several references to "CoolWebSearch" and deleted them all. I ended up buying the licence to use it "AdWare", I think it is called anyway, the problem turned out to be this "CoolWebSearch" which spies on your computer, etc. and turns up as "about blank page" - so far everything is working ok for me. If it turns up again - do a search on your computer (especially hidden files) and delete all references to "coolwebsearch" and you should be ok. It has only taken me from March until now to get some answers. I hope this helps you. LindaBedilia |

The problem seems to be associated with a program which accompanies Incedimail when its downloaded called Magentic. Go to Start and type 'system configuration' without the speech marks, into the search field, then transmit. Wait for a window to open then select the Startup Tab, scroll down the list and uncheck the Magentic program and click Ok. That should do it. So, cutback to XP. |

| Re: Blank page 'won't go away'
The only time I've had a blank (sort of yellow) page covering both my monitors is at boot, and only after I've just installed an "offending" driver. That Blank page stays on for about 30 seconds, then goes away and all is back to normal. Next step, I remove the offending driver and roll back... reboot, and no more blank page. I know this is not the problem you described, but it might nonetheless help others who've seen that "other" blank page. _______________ Asus P5K Premium Intel Core2Duo E6850 Asus 8800GTS 640 megs DDR3 4 x 2 gigs Patriot DDR2 6400 5-5-5-12 Thermaltake ToughPower 750W 4 x WD320 (YS) SATA2 HDD set as AHCI APC Back-UPS 1300XS |

Hello, I am a Computer Technician and I have seen this problem twice already. The two PCs I have seen are those of two different people. The PCs have the following in common: Both have Windows Vista in FRENCH. One has the basic version the other Home Premium. Both have an Espon Printer and has the software installed. *Both have got Incredimail in French installed on their Computers. FREE version.* I think it has got something to do with Incredimail. I'll investigate this, I would appreciate it if others would look into this as well. Maybe it is Windows Defender blocking this page. I got a tip and looked into this. Microsoft KB 937409. It didn't help. Good luck. |

My parents had this issue as well. Doing some searching, a common theme was that people who had a program called Incredimail had this issue. My mother has uninstalled the program, and hasn't had the issue again - but that was only today. I will ask her again in a week and re-post. I unistalled the program called Incredimail and the problem ended. I went to Control Panel, Programs and Features, looked for Magentic/Incredimail and uninstalled it also. |

| Re: Blank page 'won't go away'
Sorry for all the money you spent. I was getting ready to do the same thing. After reading this discussion group and my experience, it seems to be a permanent problem. I have written to Microsoft with no reply. I have tried everything mentioned in this group to no avail. The page I get is completely blank with no indication of its origination. I too use the task manager to get rid of it. I shows up on the manager as "Blank Internet Explorer Page". I use Firefox and was beginning to think my arm was being twisted to use IE. Go figure. I'm at a complete loss. I do have another ridiculous problem if anyone can help me. I have a document in Works that I cannot delete. I tried to go all over the computer to get rid of it. I beginning to go wacko with this Vista. |
