    Network Taskbar Icon

Is the network icon supposed to 'blink' or light-up like XP's? Can it be
    enabled?

Is there anywhere in this new icon that displays the internet connection
speed? I used to like seeing that in the equivalent XP icon.

    Quoll,

the icon itself, in my case, wireless, shows bars for signal strength.
To get to speeds/kbs-mbs ya need to go to the NIC itself .
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center
then in the left pane>Manage network connections>right click on the
    NIC>status

    Re: Network Taskbar Icon

The icon on my system does not show any signal strength. Actually, I am
connected to the internet through a router/modem gateway which is connected
to the NIC and which doesn't show up in the Network And Sharing Center.
There seems to be no way to determine the internet connection speed other
than logging on to the router itself. It was so much simpler and more
    functional under XP.

    Re: Network Taskbar Icon

You can right click on the icon, then go to "Network and Sharing Center",
then under your network, where is says "View status and see your speed. Is
that what your talking wanting ?

Should have said "View Status" ..and see your speed.

    Re: Network Taskbar Icon

That just shows me the speed of the NIC connection (i.e.. my LAN's
bandwidth) - it doesn't show me the speed of the internet connection which
is connected to the NIC. I think this is a case of where MS has made
something simple under XP much harder (if not impossible!) under Vista.

    Re: Network Taskbar Icon

As long as I used XP, can't say as I've ever seen a place where it tells you
    your actual internet speed.

I probably over looked something, but I doubt it.

    Re: Network Taskbar Icon

Trust me, it DID show the internet connection speed and it was very useful.
Showing me the bandwidth of my LAN instead is totally useless.

    And loving it,
