    Hello Nicole.
That error means the media you're trying to burn to is corrupt.
Try using a fresh clean blank disk in your DVD unit.
If that still doesn't work, perhaps your unit is dirty inside and needs
    cleaning.
If that doesn't work, then I suggest a different DVD unit.

0x80070571 is IDS_EE_DISK_CORRUPT, the last two words of which might
    mean something.

Have you tried a new, empty disk?

Thank you both for your comments.

I have tried burning to several (new) DVDs and continue to get the same
error. When trying to burn to CD, I get told to insert a writable disk.
This is really driving me batty! I'll try cleaning the unit though, and see
if that works but my notebook is less than a year old ...

    Thanks again for the tips

    Nicole

Ahhhh I am soooo frustrated too!! I've been trying to burn a DVD using the
Windows Vista Premium and I keep getting "Unspecified Error" and it stops!!
I have tried different "fresh" discs...and I don't know what to do!!!! Is
there a code or something I'm missing??

    Hi Ashleigh

I have no idea what we are missing, but if you figure it out feel free to
    let me know.

Out of sheer morbid curiosity, are you running Vista on a Gateway computer??
I have a Gateway notebook and I'm not sure if that makes any difference to
the DVD drive issue, but thought it was worth the question.

    Good luck to us both!!!

I know this is an old post, but I found a solution...run your registry
cleaner (I have my in my virus software program). I tried twice to burn
files to CD and I got that stupid code. I scanned my computer for
viruses (there were none thank goodness) but on a website I found a free
download for a registry cleaner so instead of downloading theirs I used
mine. Worked like a charm!!!! (btw...when I searched google for the
error code, this was the only thing I found about it.)

    Denise:rolleyes:

    BAD, BAD advice!!!!!!

    Never use a Registry Cleaner.

If you have to do it, do it manually; or leave it alone!!!!!

    Re: Error 0x80070571

    I agree.

The problem is that 99.998% of windows users don't know enough of what the
registry is and how everything works to do it manually. I personally know
programmers that I wouldn't let loose (with regedit) on my own machine. In
fact, some of them belong to the most dangerous ones: they *think* they
    know it all.

And knowledge of the registry isn't enough, sometimes you also need
knowledge of the internal workings of an application.

So instead of doing it manually, people resort to tools that are introduced
to them as white magic coming from the Gods of the Holy Smoke Within.
In reality, what makes some of those gods gods is that they are lacking
less knowledge of how a PC works than mere mortals.

But with all that being told, keep in mind that most of the time, these
tools will just do their job as the maker expected. And the times they
don't, or when they fix one thing and break two others, let's just say that
anyone who doesn't have a recent backup (of a known good state, preferably)
    deserves all he gets.

    So
    1) make backup
    2) run registry cleaner
    3) if works, be happy. if not, restore.
