| RE: Windows Vista: error 1719!! Help!
I'm having the same problem and spent 6 hours yesterday trying to sort it out. I tried all 10 solutions and nothing worked for me. It's not possible to install/uninstall anything including cleaning tool. System restore is not an option(this is pretty sloopy OS if it is the only way to sort problems). I am really dissapointed with Vista(having so much trouble with games and Visual Studio 2003 and 2005 which were made by the same company and they aren't fully compatible with OS, what to expect for products which weren't?) and wouldn't even try so hard if I didn't have to pay for it and now I want to get something for spent money. System recovery is useless. I can't believe that MS didn't make Windows Installer 4 available for download, so we can resolve this kind of issues. I'm thinking about reinstalling Vista(which would take another whole day), or returning back to XP again. Visual Studio is THE only thing keeping me from taking on LINUX path. |

I think we're dealing with two problems here: remnants of failed installations/uninstallations blocking proper installation processes, and perhaps corrupted system files (in some cases from an earlier XP install) as well that might require some elements of Vista repair. 1. Install/Uninstall Debris Problems. The Vista Installer is a fragile program that can be damaged or blocked by Windows Updates or even failed installations, which can occur for any number of reasons, producing inability to install anything and any number of error messages. The Windows Uninstall program is less than optimum at removing all parts of any uninstall and frequently leaves remnant files and folders or registry entries of the uninstalled program on your computer. The more the debris from failed or broken installations and from incomplete uninstallations mounts up, the worse your system works. Some software companies provide an uninstall tool on their support website (i.e. AdobeFlash, Norton, McAfee) which can help with this process, but often even these special uninstaller tools leave remnants of the program on your computer that can block or degrade the installation new or update programs. You can further clean up your computer manually as outlined in the following tutorial: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/87...ram-vista.html I have since found and used a program called "Smarty Uninstaller" that does an even better job of uninstalling programs, even tough ones like McAfee and Norton. You scan your computer and the program identifies all the programs on your computer, listing those that have their own uninstaller program and those that are only remnants of a program. First you click for it to use the program's uninstaller, and then when it’s finished, Smarty UI identifies any program remnants and will then uninstall the remnants (from files, folders, and registry entries). For Smarty UI (free trial period, cheap to buy) see link below: http://www.winnertweak.com/uninstaller/ After running Smarty UI, I recommend using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to finish off the uninstallation. This program is available at the following link: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;290301 Once the debris of failed installs/uninstalls is completely removed, you should be able to do a clean install of the new or update program without problems. If all this fails, you can do a clean reinstall of your OS. 2. Vista Repair Options. If you've cleared your computer of all install/uninstall debris and you're still having problems, go to the following tutorial which will take you stepwise through repair steps. The last step in the process involves a clean install of Vista. Some people have upgraded from XP to Vista over an XP install and portions of XP may be jamming up your Vista OS. This last tutorial will show you how to do a clean upgrade install, with a primary Vista install from XP, and then doing a secondary clean Vista install from your primary Vista install, eliminating all traces of XP. |

Open your command line and type the following text there. regsvr32 C:\Windows\system32\msi Finally push Enter. This is the solution that helped me. |

| Re: Windows Vista: error 1719!! Help!
I am having this same problem. It is an install of Vista 64 SP1 (not upgrade of XP). The problem appears to only be in installing 64-bit SW. I've tried everything I've read online (with the exception of re-installing Vista). I can't believe that the only solution to this is to re-install Vista. I've even upgraded to the latest hotfix for installer 4.5 and still no luck. Copied registry entries from a working system, etc. etc. Is there anyone working on the installer out there? I'd be glad to forward a log from msiexec. |

| Re: Windows Vista: error 1719!! Help!
I started poking around with the registry and when I changed the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer\WOW64 from a 1 to a 0, I clicked on the .msi file and my install worked. Hopefully this will help someone else (and I haven't broken anything). |

Wow, thank you so much, I hope you get this message, I have been fighting with this error for almost 2 years, I have been on phone with microsoft, some of my updates would not update because of the installer. I followed your notes and wow its working now, the program I could not get to install is there now. THANK YOU SO MUCH, PLEASE REPOST YOUR NOTES FOR OTHERS, I HAD TRIED SO MANY OTHER IDEAS AND NONE OF THEM WORKED, THANK YOU AGAIN |
