| Mystery wpclsp.dll DLL Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\wpclsp.dll Anybody know what wpclsp.dll is for? Perhaps it's new to Vista but a search shows little to nothing about it. The properties reveal it's registered to Microsoft as a WPC (?) LSP (Layered Service Protocol)? |

HJT log interpretation takes a lot of skill to start with (and I'm not dissing your mad skilz since I don't know what they are) and Merijn hasn't redone HJT for Vista. Some Googling around indicates that this file is probably part of Vista. http://www.castlecops.com/lsps-w.html Unless you have some other reason to suspect that your computer is infected, I wouldn't worry about it. Steam, the Valve Corporation's Propriety Online-Gaming platform, when running a Connectivity scan detected this module and said it was the "ShopAtHome adware". I realise this is an old thread and I'm sorry for bumping it up but I felt this information was relevant. Since this thread is one of the first links that pops up when someone types "wpclsp.dll" into Google I felt that this would be a good place to tell people it could be potentially spyware/adware. I say potentially because Steam could have got it wrong similar to Hijackitthis. But since it is now nearly 10 months since Windows Vista's release I think it should recognise whether it's a part of windows vista or not at this time. The thing is that none of my adware/spyware/virus scanners detected it so I don't know whether to delete it or not. I'd like to hear you guys' advice on it; whether I should delete it or not. Steam suggested I should delete it as it says it can interfere with some of my Steam games. |
