Thread: Vista's special system tray notification icons missing and disable

    Been there, done that.

Yes, I have read through (and tried) all of the attempts to correct the problem related to the missing icons. Simply restarting the machine clears the problems.

However all of the discussions on the missing/greyed out icons do not address the non-functional animated icons and the non-functional auto menu display.

There is something else that is happening and the fixes listed (including the system restart) are all bandages. I want the machine to do auto-correct mode without the mucking in the registry, killing/restarting explorer, or restarting the system. M$ has a bug in Vista and it has something to do with the logoff and logon without rebooting/restarting. Not sure what it is yet but if (when) I find it, I will be happy to post the solution.

    Thanks!

    Best regards,

Another vote for instability in VISTA... all day yesterday I had this
problem... also again this morning... greyed out.. I basically opened
the registery editor, went to that area, discovered that the proper
"hide" entries were not there and just shut the editor.

Later, I went to see the settings...and BEHOLD... the power icon was
available, I checked it and it popped up!!

missing systray (aka notification area) icons

The problem is very intermittent and I have not had time to go back and attempt to find a solution yet. I'm swamped with coding and reading for my summer classes. The session does not end until July 26th so I probably will not get around to playing with annoying bugs until then.

    ciao,

Rex, thanks for the reply... best wishes with your classes!

You may be on to something... I HAVE been switching between users
without complete shutdown on the offending machine... although shutdown
and restart were performed numerous times... so, once the problem
exists, shutdown alone does not fix it..at least that was my experience!

Re: Vista's special system tray notification icons missing and dis

Hi first post on here. have rcently purchased Dell Inspiron 1720 with vista
ultimate and am getting this problem when switching users or logon /logoff
between users. Also menu lines remain on screen and menus are transparent
until mouse pointer is moved onto them. Also web pages are inaccesible or
    very slow
    Restart always cures the problem

Re: Vista's special system tray notification icons missing and dis

    Hi

Found the solution on another post. Apparently this is due to anti-virus in
particular Kaspersky IS ver 7.0.1.325 which I am running

I disabled "registry guard " in "Proactive defense" area and everything solved

    Hope this helps.

Ah-haa thanks a heep, I've been trying to eliminate this problem for a while now. My computer is much much faster now too, maybe I'll stick to Spy Bot S&D for registry analysis.
