screen saver freezes

I have a new HP Pavillion dv2000 that came with Vista.

When I leave my computer on for awhile, say, overnight, the screensaver
(which is set as a photo slideshow) freezes. When I want to use the computer
I'll push escape or move the mouse. It freezes. I end up having to hold down
the power button to restart.

I have the same problem. I have done a little troubleshooting and found that
other 3rd party screensavers seem to work fine. I used the Firehand Ember
Photo (not as pretty as Vista's) and it keeps working. In the beta releases,
screen saver problems were more severe and clearly connected to optical mice
and keyboards. Do you have n optical keyboard and mouse as I do?

So the bottom line is, Microsoft's own products don't work in Vista but
other companies' products do. You gotta love their quality control department.

I have the exact same problem, except I'm running XP. It only started recently and although it doesn't happen all the time, it is very annoying when it does. I have no idea what's causing it. I have checked the event viewer, but there are never any errors listed.

I purchases a new HP dv2000t without vista and recently upgraded it to vista a few days ago, and now I have all these problems. My webcam no longer works, my screen saver doesn't work only on the choose user screen but not in idle. Also my settings for turning off the display after 20 min. doesn't work either. I would leave the computer on overnight and the screen saver would not work and the display will not turn off at all. I have gone to HP website to upgrade my driver for my webcam and it still doesn't work. I also went to microsoft to find any upgrades or programs and still nothing. How do I get my webcam and screensaver working again? Also how do I fix the display to turn off? I have gone through the whole power options in the computer, but nothing works. Please help.
