Unable to find the WAB DLL

I've a brand new computer running VISTA. Installed Outlook 2000 and I can
receive e-mails but cannot send any. When sending I receive the message, "An
error occurred while attempting to open the windows address book. Unable to
find the WAB DLL". I get the same error when trying to open the address book.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've given up with Outlook and I'm now successfully using windows mail.

Did you ever find an answer to your question? I'm having the same
problem.

No I didn't. Sorry. I believe that Outlook 2007 is compatible with VISTA.

where does one get that? I hate M$ but need outlook for my new
smartphone.

Chaps. Had to think about this for a few mins but then something came to mind that I remember has got me out of a lot of vista issues with programs,

To fix this issue go to

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office

And find the

OUTLOOK application

Right click and go to properties, then compatibility, then under compatibility mode tick the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and choose Windows XP SP2 in the drop down.

Try outlook and it will ask you the same questions again but after closing it and re-opening it again it has worked for me. I can now log onto it with out getting that start-up message and also send e-mails without a WAB.DLL error!!!!!!!!

Regards

Andrew Kipling

outlook wab.dll error

Thanks for the post, on fixing the wab dll error. That worked for me. However I am prompted, every time I launch outlook, do I want to use outlook as my default mail manager. I would welcome you thoughts on that one.

Re: Unable to find the WAB DLL

Click "YES"; you do want it to be the default.
If it is your main email progam, with the email address that your ISP gave
you; yes.

On vista:
To fix this issue go to

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office

And find the

OUTLOOK application

Then right click on it and select "Run as Administrator"

Once I did this life was good. Good luck!

You folks ROCK! This fixed my WAB DLL problem. Many thanks!

Just one other thing everytime a launch Outlook 2000 in Vista, I get the Outlook 2000 startup wizard. I click Next and Next, the wizard goes away and Outlook opens and operates properly.

Any ideas how to fix?

Many thanks again.

Bill

You're lucky that Outlook 2000 even works. You might have to learn to
live with it.

Only Outlook 2003 and 2007 are fully compatible with Vista

Try to rename any wab32.dll's that you find and reinstall Outlook.

Try the following:

1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\System and if the DLL files are found.

Copy wab32.dll and wab32res.dll to the following directory:

C:\Windows\System32

If you are unable to find the files, I have zipped and attached them in the link posted above. Just unzip them to the System32 folder.

FYI......Outlook 2000 and Vista incompatibility is a known issue. Outlook uses some common files with Outlook Express. From what I understand, Vista does not come with Outlook Express therefore these shared dll files may not be available.

2. You may have to register the DLL's by using the following commands at the run prompt:

regsvr32 wab32.dll
regsvr32 wab32res.dll

Re: Unable to find the WAB DLL

Hi
The reason why some of you don't get it to work is because OUTLOOK.EXE process is still running, even though you closed the application. You have to open the task manager and end the process OUTLOOK.EXE. Then restart Outlook. Now it should work.
Best regards

Re: Unable to find the WAB DLL

The wab.dll has not been used in Outlook since Outlook 2k, which is not
compatible with Vista, though there are work arounds
