    Windows Media Network Sharing Service

Is there any way to disable this (Vista Ultimate) ? I don't use it, but it's
always running at startup. I've tried disabling it in System Config and in
Services, also in Group Policy but it still runs!

With XP I could just rename or delete the 'wmpscnfg.exe' file, but this is a
system file that can't be modified

    Hi Brian,

    Try this:

    Open WMP, click Tools, Options
Select the "Library" tab, and click "Configure Sharing..."
Uncheck "Share my media" and "Find media that others are sharing" checkboxes
    Click OK.

    Then,

    Click Start.
Right-click Computer, and then click Manage.
Expand Services and Applications, and then click Services.
Double-click Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service and set it to Disabled

I also have a network sharing service problem -

Vista displays, occasion (and I havent worked out WHAT occasions yet):

"windows media player network sharing service stopped working and was
closed" - followed by some bullsĀ£$t about windows informing me of a
    solution when it becomes available

This pop up appears relentlessly - about once every 30 seconds, and i
can see the system performance hitting 100% CPU for 5 seconds or so
    each time it does.

I did what is suggested here - ie disable the service - and it STILL
comes up with the eror. Any ideas????

What's the fault information for that crash according to the Problem Reports
    and Solutions Center control panel?
