Lack of FAX Support for Vista Home Premium

I find it dishearting that Microsoft failed to provide home users with the
ability to send/receive a fax. A fax capability has been a standard feature
in just about every Microsoft OS I can remember. As a home users, I don't
need a fax on a daily basis. I might use it once a month or once every
couple of months, but when I need it, I expect it to be there.
Microsoft, you failed as far as I am concerned. I purchased a new computer
with Vista Premium loaded. The computer came with a fax modem, however, I
discoverd that only Business and above have fax capability built in. To make
it right, Microsoft should include the fax capability as an update or as a
    free stand alone download.

I'm surprised your computer manufacturer didn't include fax software to go
with the fax modem that came with the computer. Have you double-checked
that? Have you checked the manufacturer's web site to see if they have a
program that's compatible with Vista? Failing that, one source of
alternatives might be the Marketplace on the Microsoft Office site:

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ma...=fax&av=PMP000

It looks like it contains links for both fax software and internet faxing
    sites. I've used both www.efax.com and www.fax1.com .

    as haven't you..... smartass

    to the OP, try http://www.snappysoftware.com/
look for Snappy Fax, works with Vista

funny though, why MS decided to remove a feature from what they KNEW would
    be their top seller.
just one more example of how "upgrading" to Vista actually results in a
    "downgrade"

I upgraded to vista home premium from xp and found that my fax program had
vanished. So home premium stole my fax program and charged me for the
    privilage
I am now in the process of asking microsoft for my money back.

Yep, just like General Motors who've decided that, if you own a somewhat
older car with their analog North Star system, you're SOL because North Star
is moving to a digital system and only the very latest cars with the analog
system can be upgraded to digital - if you want to continue to use North
Star, buy yourself a new car. A lovely philosophy for creating a market to
make a ton of money, but no, I DON'T have to love it.

Re: Lack of FAX Support for Vista Home Premium

The third option is free. You might find a version that works for you on
    that page.

You might consider Snappy Fax at a slight cost:
    http://www.snappysoftware.com/

or a full BVRP Classic Phone Tools 9: $29.90
    http://www.shop.avanquest.com/usa/pr...S_CPT_homepage

or the Free version from BVRP:
    http://www.usr.com/bvrp/bvrp.asp
I’ve used all of these. Snappy fax screen look a bit crude but the product
actually is fairly feature rich and works fine. BVRP also works fine,
screen looks a little better. Other than that, there are minor differences
    in performance between the two.

The point, of course, is that posting the same message over and over in an
end user newsgroup that Microsoft does not read is simply a waste of time.
No one was more vocal than I during the development cycle about the lack of
Fax in the Vista versions whose users needed it most. In the end, marketing
overrules development every time. Case closed.

Re: Lack of FAX Support for Vista Home Premium

I don't fax but I did want to point out that I'm not the only person at MS
in this newsgroup. Can I convince a marketing team that they made the wrong
choice? No way!. Can you be heard? Yes. The fact that people are
disappointed has been heard, It's not just a Russ thing nor just a
newsgroup subject. The developers who want you to use their software argue
your point and use the customer argument as leverage to convince marketing
that this is a useful feature in the home.

Re: Lack of FAX Support for Vista Home Premium

I too am frustrated that Home Premium doesn't come with a fax function.
Likewise, my laptop came pre-installed with premium and no other option
was available. Removing the fax feature is inexcusable.

Now, just a quick word to the MVP's:

I can understand visitors to this thread doing so, but yourselves doing
this consistently is unforgivable. When you respond to someone's post,
please remove all the the excess verbiage. Nobody wants to see all those
previous posts repeated over and over in every response.

It not only makes it harder to read, but is pure laziness on your part.
A lot of people say that Windows code is full of bloat and reading your
responses just makes me wonder. Especially considering that you regard
yourselves as developers. So, if you wish to quote what someone has
previously said, then please only quote what you're actually responding
    to. Remove the rest please.

To include the messages in replies is standard procedure for these NG's. If
one has just "tuned in" that helps to inform us what has gone on before.
